WD40 will work in a pinch, wouldn't use it too much though as it tends to degrease the lock mech.

With the Vitesse I get 27-30mpg on a run, typically sub 20 around town. My Astra derv gets around 50mpg wether round town or motorway (that's with 80-90 on motorway mind). I usually heat the key up with a lighter before inserting if I need to use the key.
