The Old Bugger returns...

No, I'm not dead!! I am, however, Rover free. The wife replaced her 827SLI for a 2013 MG6 and I got rid of my Rovers so now I only have the Peugeot 405 and an old Ford Scorpio. Lately though I've been missing an 800 and after searching the local ads I may have found one. I'm viewing it tomorrow so w...

I'm sure she'll go for many more miles, those old diesels do.

Re: Its That Time Again.

I take it it's your 416 that has done it? If so, you're lucky - those K-Series are a doddle to work on. Up until a couple of years ago my Son-in-law had a 1998 Rover 200 with the 1.6 Litre K-Series motor and it was at 186,000 miles when he scrapped it due to corrosion but it was still on the origina...

Re: A Tip From The Old Bugger

Yes that is terribly irritating, but it is the petrol station's fault for putting a convenience store on the premises!!

The most I buy from there is a pack of cigarettes.

Re: A Tip From The Old Bugger

Even keeping the revs low you are still putting extra wear on the engine by driving it instead of warming it up first as when it is warming up on idle there is no strain on the engine.

Re: A Tip From The Old Bugger

My idea of letting it warm up isn't to avoid cut outs, it is to prevent wear to the bearings and piston rings due to lack of lubrication.

Oil gets thicker the colder it is so I personally prefer to let it thin a little before driving.

Re: A Tip From The Old Bugger

If you want to make sure nothing will happen, simply stay outside whilst it warms up.

If you're a smoker, have a cigarette and by the time you're finished it'll be warmed up. If not... Water the hanging baskets?

Re: Brad's Frontera 3.2 V6's.

Never been a fan of the Fronteras though I'm not against Vauxhall completely, I owned an old Vauxhall Senator years and years ago.

Straight six, automatic, leather - ah, those were the says.

Of course Brad, I'm in the middle of getting a new 100" Plasma television fitted in mine though, needed to take all the cars out to get it through!!

A Tip From The Old Bugger

With the weather now being sub-zero I would advise anybody warms their engines up for at least a few minutes before driving. I always fire the car up and let it run for about 5-10 minutes on idle before driving, as I'm doing with the old '91 827SLi at the moment before the wife drops me off at the g...

Re: Has any one had the tailgate drop?

The tailgate on my white Jeep would not stay up, so had the broomstick backup. I fitted new struts and they are so powerful that I nearly got whacked under the chin the first time I released it. Sorry but I burst out laughing when I read that. I have had a similar thing happen though. Back in...

Re: When does a hobby become an obsession?

OK, I haven't touched the 820SLi at all and with the weather being as bad as it is decided to just put it in the garage for the MOT and if it doesn't cost too much get them to do the repairs (I'm getting too old for lying under a car in the rain) then I'll do the aesthetics next year. I did that a c...
