Re: Got to make you laugh

Sounds about right, but in my recent experience of trying to hire a new trainee they don't even bother to turn up, you just get a text message:

Re: Rover 820 turbo coupe

Not many. How many left doesn't separate the turbo coupes from the other styles and if you try to decipher the data it appears to say there about 10 left. But just from members on here and cars that come up for sale, I'd take a guess that there are maybe 20 in the UK and maybe the same number outsid...

Re: Anyone with Lathe ownership experience

The new chinese and indian made multipurpose lathe/drill/multitool things are just as awful as your worst nightmares. A wood lathe is a wood lathe and a metal lathe is a metal lathe. The one that are sold as doing both do neither well. Buy the best you can afford and remember that with industrial/li...

Re: Coolant / header tank needed

Just find a secondhand volvo unit. They don't fail with age and an elderly genuine volvo part will be better quality than a cheap new pattern part.

Re: Centre console wood veneer

It's really difficult to fix the veneer on an 800 as the "lacquer" is actually a hard plastic coating that is pressed onto the wood and metal using heat. I have spoken to a professional veneer restorer who gave me a quote of £50-100 for the clock surround. A price that is too steep while decent seco...

Re: FREE - Job lot of 800 related bolts etc

To the untrained eye I'm sure most people would think the same. :) There's a lot of seat mounting bolts, suspension bolts, panel bolts for wings etc. Plus all the silly ones for mounting things like header tanks. I'll give it a couple of days but if there's no interest they'll go in the bin with th...

Re: Rover 825 v6 Sterling 1998 R543 HJW

Just to add to what Tom and Dean have said, if you went down the fob/ECU/CCU route, it would have to be from another 825 and preferably seen working - you would also (i believe) need the receiver box from under the armrest/centre console as i think that is programmed to the key for additional immob...

Re: Rover 825 v6 Sterling 1998 R543 HJW

I'm pretty certain that with the Valeo fobs you can only programme them with the barcode. You may be able to source an ECU-CCU-Fob set which will give you a working central locking and immobilser. Occasionally a fob comes up on ebay with its barcode, but beware - I have been told that there is a lim...

Re: Hello. >>> 1993 Rover 820i

Hi Mike, You're halfway there. The bit with the stepper motor on is the throttle body, which meters air into the engine. By measuring engine speed, intake vacuum/pressure, throttle opening and a few other parameters the ECU knows exactly how much fuel to squirt with the injectors. Depending which ge...

Re: 1998 820 Vitesse - 12 months MOT, lots of spares

Am I the only one on here who thinks it is staggeringly (way too!) cheap? I think we are doing ourselves no favours in selling them at this level. Surely, even in this none pristine condition, 2K is not unreasonable. I fully appreciate that what we 'value' them at is different to what people will p...

Re: Rear wheel arch repair sections

Are you looking to get repair sections for the Fastback/Saloon and the Coupé or just one or the other Simon? Unfortunately both rear arches on my Vitesse have been cut up by PO to fit 18" wheels. Else I'd have said I can cut them out and send them to you. Didn't Tom have the arches out of the gold ...

Re: Alucard7002 - Mk2b 820Si Fastback - Pic Heavy!

Is it the larger bush on the dog bone that is perished causing it to thump across the cutouts?

I cured/bodged this on mine but sliding and gluing some 3mm rubber sheet into the cutouts.

Re: Hello. >>> 1993 Rover 820i

Another thing worth a check - your early car should have an idle switch on the accelerator pedal to put the ECU into idle mode when your foot is off the pedal. This can fail or be damaged so it misses the pedal. Also incorrectly set throttle cables can confuse the ECU.

Oh, and make sure you disconnect the battery for a few hours while or after fitting new bits to reset the ECU.
