Re: Spring is sprung
No. Search the websites. Ordinary grease should not be used in contact with rubber. Silicon is often recommended. Next time you want to respond with such a terse note do your research first. It isn't an important debate but it's silly to be petty about it.

Re: Spring is sprung
The rear calipers may not be the issue, check the guide pins as they do tend to seize in the carriers and prevent the caliper from sliding back and forth. I took the pins out. On the one side they didn't seem to have ever been greased; just dry as a bone. On the other side the calliper seemed newer...

Spring is sprung
The grass is riz (etc)... Anyway, taking advantage of the lovely Spring weather we had today I dragged the winter covers off the 825 coupe and fired it up for the first time since Autumn. Started first turn of the key. No tappity tappity tappity either - which was a pleasant surprise. It took the au...

Re: Rear Bumper Side Clips
I've replaced three of mine so far using the box steel method. I'll have to do the fourth soon... An hour's work each with a hacksaw, file and a paintbrush, and quite satisfying! To be honest the Mark 2 brackets are a terrible design; thin plastic-coated steel that is guaranteed to rust in no time. ...

Re: Insurance
I think that is the debate for all of us! - do we want the "guarantee", and are we willing to pay for it, bearing in mind the realistically low replacement value of an 800? Guaranteed values are good peace of mind of course but in my reading of small print I detect that the guarantees offered by ins...

Insurance
Maybe we should have this as a Topic in its own right? Anyway, I thought I'd share some experiences about insurance based on my observations having today gone through the annual rigmarole of insuring my Rover 825. I should say up front that I do have some insider industry knowledge; I am a freelance...

I hate the prestige wheels too - they are irredeemably naff in my view. Hence the eBay cheapies. And I'm not normally bothered by wheels!

Re: Some pics of my 825 Coupe
Thank you. TBH I am wary of thinner tyres, having had a bad experience with the 17 inchers on my Saab 9-3; a harsh ride and two broken springs, to date. Happy to keep the 16 inchers and I love the ride on them. Amazing what a difference an inch makes! - but a chacun son gout (as I have never actuall...

Some pics of my 825 Coupe
With the ebay cheapy wheels, which I am getting used to... I gave the car a good clean yesterday - probably the cleanest it ever has been in my ownership, or ever will be. I was planning on using it to get down to our place in the South of France in a couple of weeks' time (hence the unwonted cleani...

Re: Your first Rover
In fact it was 1988 (not 98 or 99) when I bought TAR 396W. So I've been driving Rovers for nearly 30 years. Bloody hell fire... Ironically my first 2600 was bought because of head gasket failure - of my previous Vauxhall Victor, bought for £180 (which I recall was a financial stretch for me - to rep...

Your first Rover
They say you never forget your first. Mine was a Richelieu red 2600 bought for £650 from a Suffolk farmer in, I suppose, '98 or '99, after my ancient Vauxhall Victor finally gave up the ghost. The Rover had 60-something thousand miles on the clock but it had been on its roof at some stage - it was s...

How hard does it have to be?
So, Mrs G has finally persuaded me that we need some new flooring. (I quite like our old floor - even though the laminate 'planks' do slide about a bit, it's quite fun. And the 'distressed' look is tres chic, non?) The entire house - 110 square metres (we live in a bungalow). Checked some prices and...
