Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

There has been a lot more to this upgrade than met they eye at first Henrik! :D Well yes, but it is welcome. I knew there would be some difficulties plus extra work involved and that's why it's been on hold. This is mostly only straight forward mechanical work and I feel comfortable there, i...

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic

Very very nice as always! I agree with Mark just above here, my Vitesse is too far gone to ever get there ín the state yours is Marc, but it's great to see how it should be!

Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

Thanks guys! I did some reading last night and apparently there have been problems with the new gears. So some more fiddling to get the dynamator gear out (dynamo-distributor) but it came out fairly easy. Old original gear in place. https://i.postimg.cc/FfjvZHkt/C92-DF920-6511-4236-B3-B6-27-B29-E470...

Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

It went surprisingly easy to swap the dynamo. Now I just need to figure out the wiring diagram and transfer it into my electrical system. Shouldn’t be a problem! It looks like it’s going to be an Austin summer after all! https://i.postimg.cc/hJsgGx24/06-ACC3-AC-69-AB-4276-A1-B0-308-F0-D25-DF42.jpg h...

Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

The old drain plug for the radiator was totally deteriorated so in a way it’s really good i did this now. The plug actually fell out when We touched it so it would have resulted in a very messy garage floor! The plug wasn’t original and the replacement isn’t either but I like building stuff out of j...

Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

A bit more free and system and rad flushed. Next step getting the dynamo housing off. But as everything is easy accessible now it should be straight forward. Some cleaning up and a stroke or two with a brush of paint might happen while at it. Also I need to fix the hole in the nose cone. I had a lid...

Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

I was off to the studio tonight but Marcus drained the rad. It’s a very special type of antifreeze, as you can see. There is blue, green, red and this.

The colour is called ”neglect”....

Re: Manalishis Mk 1a 827 Vitesse (manual)

If of any interest to this topic, the owner's manual of a 1988 Sterling states: There are two ABS-related fuses in the engine compartment fusebox: Anti-lock brake system relay (15 A) and Anti-lock brake system modulator (15 A). There is also one ABS fuse in the passenger compartment fusebox (below ...

Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

Eureka! It runs! Quite happy really, it wasn’t started last year and with a fresh battery and some priming it ran to life. Running on three for Maybe 30-45s and then purring like a kitten. Impressive car that, it must be built by a true master! Next step is removing the rad to get to all of the sad ...

Re: Manalishis Mk 1a 827 Vitesse (manual)

Excellent Dave. I need to get those relays looked into later anyway so I’ll remember that. Who said the light doesn’t work as it should? Actually We have the same law here but with cars older than 93-94 they tend to be very gentle with that rule. But I know for a fact my ABS has never work...

Re: Manalishis Mk 1a 827 Vitesse (manual)

That's an odd one Henrik, sounds vaguely familiar from my time with a Mk1 Sterling, do you have any warning lights on at all? No not really, but saying that I've killed the ABS light. I remember my 216 from -94 with a Honda engine had an ecu with a blinking light to read codes, none of that is avai...

Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

The sling idea is only to support the weight of the dynamo so it doesn't hang on the bolts while you remove it. I think a lot of care and penetrating oil will be needed plus a degree of luck and maybe divine intervention. Good luck with it however you do it though! :D Apparently the battery ...

Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

Not sure I understand that Dave But the dilemma is the dynamo sits at a 90deg angle in a housing driven by sprocket from the camshaft and the housing itself is the problem. I tried to find a good blueprint of it but it’s not very clear. In this pic the housing is no 10. The dynamo isn’t seen here bu...

Re: As if I don’t have too much to do...?

Been waiting a long time for the write up on this Henrik! Hope you get loads of pics and a good write up doing it! :D Oh dear, not sure I should!  I'll try Dave! It is really very simple now the rad and bonnet sides are gone, but the aluminium is super fragile and cracking it wo...
