Hello to everyone.
Good evening everyone. I've owned a 1988/89 F reg 827Si fastback in Nightfire Red, with a manual gearbox since 1998. I stopped using it in 2005. For the last ten years a mate of mine has let me store it on his land for free, (he's a very good guy), and it hasn't turned a wheel in all that time. It had done approx 270k miles and a clonking UJ and busy schedule with too many cars meant I parked it up all those years ago. I have always intended to get the old girl back on the road but never got around to it, but now it's time to try. I'm prompted into action for two reasons; because an ignorant guy stores a caravan next to the car and despite my requests repeatedly uses her as a work bench. His answer is that she's worthless - so time to prove him wrong. Secondly, I looked at "howmanyleft" and realised how rare she is. I can remember what a lovely car she was to drive. One plus point is that in 1999 I had her professionally rustproofed throughout by a guy that was doing classic jags at the time. The only rust I can see is on one rear arch. I joined the forum to meet some other 800 fans and to seek advice from those more experienced with the car then me. Will keep you posted of my progress. Cheers.

Thank you for your welcome comments. The car has been on "hardish" standing, compacted rubble/hardcore, plus been in the shadow of a massive grain store so hasn't ever received the full force of the prevaling rain. Took me over an hour to open the bonnet today because I had a stupid moment. I pulled the catch and only one side popped up. I immediately became overcautious not wanting to break the plastic handle so disengaged it from the catch bla bla bla only to eventually realise that each side had a wire and when I pulled the lower one the bonnet popped up.... well at least I didn't break anything.
Bonnet open revealed ratty had been to visit. I will take a picture and post it tomorrow. All the alternator signal/control wires chewed where they go up to it.
On the plus side the expansion tank was full to the min level with blueish coolant. Got to be a good sign. Coincindentally I have found a few records and I replaced the centre coolant pipe on in June 2000. The exposed one that runs across the front of the rad? Will check the expansion tank lower one.

He had it as a company car from about 1990 until 1996 when he took it on, because he loved it. Interestingly he tells me that it was a press car, one given to reporters before he had it? Jon - to post photos you will need an account at somewhere like Imageshack.com or Photobucket.com (they're free). You upload th photos to there and copy/paste the links into your forum post here. Finally manged to work the photo thing.
Finished compounding and polishing the bonnet today -manually. Not brilliant but much better. No longer looks like a scrap car.
Hopefully no one will just plonk stuff on the bonnet anymore. Haven't had the courage to dig around under the bonnet to see how much damage the rats have actually done.

A fine effort on the bonnet, the early two pack paint system responds well to polish especially the solid colours.

Hi. The bonnet came up ok. The photos make the paint look better than it is but I'm pleased.
The car went into the dealers in the early nineties with a damaged nearside sill and passenger's door after an unfortunate collision with a deer. (It was when my stepfather had it as his company car.) The passenger door was resprayed and it seems like the bodyshop drifted a coat of clear lacquer over the roof?? I didn't expect the solid red to have a lacquer finish but it has cause it's all peeling. I didn't notice it when I inherited the car but 20yrs of UV has now highlighted it. Now the whole roof needs the flaking lacquer removed.
I would love to pressure wash certain bits of the car - but unfortunatley there is no easy water or power supply anywhere near the car. I can't drive it because of the chewed wires and it has four flat tyres.
I have decided to put the car back on the road. It's going to be time consuming and I'm not going to do it overnight but..
Importantly, a friend of mine has an E-Type Jag. It's 20yrs older than my 827Si. He's recently had it valued and it's obviously worth loads more than my car, but according to my initial research the Mk1 827 Si Manual is more rare.
I live near Cowley in Oxford and when I was growing up BL cars were everywhere. My Mum taught in Cowley Primary school and she taught girls called Marina cause Daddy worked on the production line.
My first car was a Marina Coupe and I progressed to a van..... How many of them are left??
I know I haven't seen a MK1 800 Rover on the road for years. I don't really know how rare the cars are?

Dear Paul, mrpcpc. Thanks for your comments. I appreciate you taking the time to post them. I am not experienced in forum posting and hence don't want to get the etiquette wrong. I will post the wrong thing in the wrong place no doubt?
The rats have completely chewed through the loom to the green alternator plug and more. I am confident I can repair the damage I've seen so far but it's good to know you have looms.
