Hello all.
Pick up my 825 Stirling fastback on Monday, must say quite excited as the last time I drove an 800 was over 25 years ago (how time flies...sigh)
Its going into my modest collection as I think the future bodes well for the 800 series, however as all my cars get to do the drive to work on a rotational basis (weather dependant of course) its not going to just sit there gathering dust, indeed if it drives as well as I remember Ill probably use it more often than not.

Been lurking on here for a while but as I had nothing to contribute I thought id wait until a deal on a car had been done.

Hope to get out to a few meets next year and show it off whilst meeting fellow enthusiasts.

Welcome Jez! Sounds like you've got plans, so hopefully you can spend the winter doing any minor fettling needed, so it's ready for summer.

Welcome aboard the flagship Jez! Good to hear the 800 is getting better known as worth saving!

Like Tom says, it's very underrated as a drivers car, it's amazing how you can throw them around once you're used to them and just how quick they are, especially the V6 and 2.0 turbo versions. They easily scare the be-jesus out of lots of much more modern machinery the drivers of which just don't have a clue what lurks beneath the sedate looking bonnet of an 800! Their expressions (in the rear view mirror of course! :lol: ) are priceless!

Probably too early for you to know yet but if you need any 825-specific spares, Deano on here is breaking a KV6 coupe at the moment. Many parts are gone and most of the body panels won't fit your fastback but he still has useful stuff like lights, expansion tank and so on.

Hi Dave, good to know thanks.
I also want an 827 Stirling Coupe plus a turbo in the fullness of time.
Also just won the tatty 827 Coupe on eBay as a doner if it's too far along to save.
I remember how well they drove, and in their day were quite the looker IMO,I remember going to the NEC car show way back in 1988 and seeing a Stirling Coupe on the stand and thinking one day!!!!

Which 827 coupé was that on ebay Jez? There have been a few lately.

Sadly they never made an 827 Sterling coupé, the 827 coupé was Sterling spec and because it was the only coupé offered, they decided they didn't need to confuse things with trim levels. It was only after 1996 that you could get various trims in a coupé including Sterling but by then you couldn't get the 2.7 engine anymore as Honda pulled the plug because of the BMW ownership of Rover.

Was this the car you saw at the NEC?

I don't know why I wrote coupe, I meant saloon. Got the 66k miler which was the subject of a thread on the eBay section.
Car was owned by an elderly lady who wanted to keep the car as it was her late husbands, she had it maintained by the garage that listed it and also paid them storage until the garage owner suggested it was time to let it go. Picking it up tomorrow with the trailer.
Today I collected the 825 Stirling fastback that was advertised on EBay for £1000,the guy only wanted to sell to an enthusiast which was why he didn't mot it as he didn't want it used as a cheap runaround. I didn't pay anywhere near that as he was very happy the car was going to a good home.
It's pretty good with a genuine 34k and bags of history,windows were beeping as he'd disconnected the battery.......simple fix.
Not so simple is an intermittent problem with the dash and interior switch lights not coming on with the head or park light switch.
I guess it's a fuse box issue....sigh.
Got a backup coming from eBay so that'll be a night of soldering to come.
Anyway, mot in the morning then off to collect the 827 in the afternoon.
Regards the NEC...yes that's the puppy, love it.
I'll post up pics of both when I have time.

Got both cars home now.
The 825 is great, the 827 not so.
So, as I name the cars for ease of description the 825's called Eric (as in "the Viking")
The 827's Clarice (Sterling) :D
So they both have to stay now.

that might actually just be a fuse for the dash lights , mine was

under the dash, fuse no1 if I remember right... red 10 amp I think

Thanks for that worth a look although it's intermittent and now the windows and the seat heaters are playing up too.
Been out, in fact just got back. The previous owner left a full house in the cd box so ELO full blast had to be done. :D
Tyres are a bit flat spotted but I'll leave them for a couple of hundred miles to see if they pull out.

Sounds like the fusebox needs resoldering with the windows and seat heaters playing up, particularly in the area of the yellow, central ish mounted relay in the fusebox.

You may find the dash lights etc settle down with use or resoldering the fusebox is a "cure all" - good place to start anyway as it does cause a multitude of electrical problems. We can blame Europe for that and their "unleaded solder".
