Rover 800 Vitesse Coupe - Northampton UK
Hello all!
I'm currently hoofing around in a '97 Vitesse Coupe! I bought this purely for the engine, as i am planning on fitting it to my MR ZR.
I've fitted a k&n and a dump valve, and even for a big car, this is quick.
I will probably break it eventually, but for now i'm just having lots of fun!

Hi Chris, glad to see you made it to the forum! Car looks really good, as I said before the idea of a ZR with 200Bhp does appeal but your Coupe does look good!
What is the handling like compared to the ZR?

Hi James,
Yeah, it's not bad, but it does suffer from insane torque steer. The k&n and the DV really didnt improve things.
Its a very comfy car, handles a lot better than the 800's i have had before (820 SLi and a Vitesse Fastback - 180bhp) and the performance really fools you into thinking it's a lot smaller.
The MG (ZR 160) is silly quick to start with. It's a bit like driving the dogems at the fair - makes you giggle a lot. Great for around town as it's small and nippy and the gears are all down the bottom. Downside is its screaming at 90 on the motorway and (allegedly) flat out at 110.
I'm hoping the 200bhp engine in the ZR will give me the best of both worlds....
PM me if you like and i will send you a link for the rest of the pics of the 800.
Chris.

I do have a grown up car, but sadly it's not terribly exciting. Spiffing fun in the snow however!InTheRover'Over' wrote:Dont break it, just be a grown up in a grown ups car lol

I nearly bought a Legacy a couple of Sunday's ago. Guy phoned me up at the last minute to say he'd clipped a kurb and wrecked an alloy so I gave it a miss.
Any tips on them?

I'm not sure a bent alloy would have put me off......
The Subaru Legacy is an awesome vehicle. I sold my Imprezza a year or so ago and ended up driving around in a £400 Pug 406 (i'm not proud of that tbph). After going from a saloon car to a mahoosive estate i fell in love with the 'throw it all in the back' thing, so when i finally disposed of the Pug i went looking for a Subaru Legacy Twin Turbo. Sadly insurance companies think it's open season, and there was no way in hell i was paying them that much money, so i settled on a Legacy Outback Auto (£800). Rough as a badgers ( | ) but unstopable. I drove that car around for nearly a year and all i did was change the spark plugs once and put petrol in it.
Comfy, warm, goes anywhere, loads of room in the back, and the cage (with the dogs in it) fits fine in the back. Handy for carting crap around too. Never again will you have to measure somthing at B&Q - it will fit.
Finally parted with the Outback as the MOT was nearly up and it needed more spent on it than i wanted to invest in it, as i had my eye on a newer one. Ideally i would have liked another Outback, but finding a tidy one (any Subaru really) at the right price was tricky.
The silver one above i paid £1500 for with short MOT and tax, but it went through the MOT for less than £300 including new tyres all round.
The 2001 onward model is a bit more refined, heated seats (leather) cruise control, vehicle stability etc. to name but a few toys.
Well worth a look at, and as always history and paperwork are paramount. Subaru garages are not cheap, and these cars are fairly complex being AWD / flat 4 engine etc.
Hope this helps,
Chris.

It wasn't specifically the damage of the wheel that stopped me buying it.
More what else has been done if enough of an accident has happened to wreck an alloy?

I would be tempted to take a look anyway. Those kind of incidents are what makes bargains for us hands on types.CHR15E wrote:It wasn't specifically the damage of the wheel that stopped me buying it.

It doesnt take much to ruin an alloy wheel - clip a kerb firmly enough and thats your tracking out and possibly a permenant wobble.
Long as it hasnt transmitted damage beyond the swing arm / stab bar it's easily put right, confirmed with a 4 wheel geo tracking.
just thinking out loud here!
Chris.
