My Estima is a 4WD (there has been a lengthy discussion on the TEOC forum about 4x4 v 4WD would you believe) and last winter coped magnificently with the snow and ice when we visited the inlaws in County Durham. As a southern softy I was not equipped to deal with the wind when we visited the old Roman fort at South Shields (I put it down to thinning blood as I'm over 30...!).
My wife has great regard for the Toyota as it has proved most reliable compared to her Discovery. We both can't understand why Toyota didn't import them as its spec (mid engine, 4WD, auto, seven seats, electric everything, traction control, ABS, fridge, column change, self-closing rear doors and so on) is unmatched in a 1993 car. But it is not a 'drivers' car' and lacks the panache of the Rover. Not to mention the leather.
On a different note, has anyone any information on the quantity of 'classics' lost by the former regimes' 'scrappage scheme'? It would be good to shame them with a list of great cars crushed for the sake of some VAT. I have heard of some that were saved but nothing that can be verified.
Also, I go to the Knebworth Classic show every August bank holiday and wondered if anyone else attends. It's very good with excellent one-make stands and an arena where a most knowledgable chap comments on cars invited to be shown, I will post some examples when I get time.
I did show my Scimitar at Brooklands when they had British Sports Car Day in the late 90s but that seems to have ceased (something to do with Mercedes take over, perhaps?).
