Afternoon all!
Just joined up after having a 1999 825 Si saloon delivered yesterday evening. More by luck than judgement I have to admit.
Yesterday morning I had no intention of buying anything, but did need a towcar. A friend of mine dropped by yesterday afternoon with the Rover that he had just bought (because it was cheap and he's a bit of a wheeler dealer). I noticed it had a towbar already fitted. Genuine 58000 miles with history to confirm it. Finished in (I believe) White Gold.
Anyhoo, the upshot is the Rover stayed and my Porsche 924 went home with my friend. Result! I now have the car I need without the hassle of selling the Porsche and finding a towcar. A diesel would have been nice, but I'm not going to complain.
Not had chance to drive it yet as it needs tax, but it looks very clean for a 12 year old car and certainly runs sweet enough. Started instantly from cold this morning, not even the slightest hesitation.
I'll get some pics up when it stops raining long enough to take some!
Cheers!
Pete

Cheers guys. I feel at home already.
I wasn't really aware that the 2.5 V6 was a bit fragile, but that's the reason I joined up, to learn!
As an old low miler I expect it has the original timing belts so, as with every car I buy, that's a priority to get changed. Need to read up and see if its a DIY proposition. I managed my V6 Audi without too much bother, so I'm hoping its something that I can tackle myself, or maybe it is cheap enough to have someone do them for me. Any pointers either way appreciated. Any good mechanics in the Notts/Derbys area would be good to know about too if anyone has recommendations.
I'm sure all the info is already on the forums somewhere, I just need to search it out. So with that in mind .........
PS> Nice avatar BlueRover!

Welcome to the site.
I'm in Notts if you need advice etc.
The belt job on a KV6 is involved. I think we have the info on here. It's a quad cam which makes things more tricky than some V's.

It can be done but you really need to borrow (hire) a service kit. This allows you to lock the various pulleys into place and tension the smaller belts before fitting.CHR15E wrote: The belt job on a KV6 is involved. I think we have the info on here. There is a service video on the net which was produced by MG-R explaining how to do it.

Welcome Pete! Not done an 825 belt myself but did my 827 belt - relatively straightforward as no locking tools were needed but a pig for access as some of the bolts are hidden in the space between the chassis members and the engine so plenty of skinned knuckles!
I once read up on doing the belts on an 825 (KV6) and to be honest it's the sort of thing i would consider entrusting to a garage with a good reputation that's done plenty of them before and have the proper service tools - that way if something does go wrong, they have to find a replacement engine for you or fix the existing one. That's not to say don't have a go yourself if you can hire the timing tools for it but be careful you don't end up hiring the tools to do an 825 diesel as they won't work! Hire shops don't usually know a great deal about the insides of car engines (unless they have a fellow enthusiast/ex-Rover mechanic working there) so they look on the box and yes it is for the Rover 825, it must do the job!
Also, more when you order parts, be wary of the original 825 (petrol) as that was a smaller version of the Honda 2.7 engine as fitted to 827 models. A lot of parts other than engine bits aren't interchangeable as there was about 8 years or so between the two different models so they have different brakes amongst other things!
