Two Headed 827

Post by epic1400cs » Wed Aug 08, 2012 6:48 pm

Hello everyone.
My project has been left halfway through for a while due to family and work but now I have decided to finish it off so I wanted to say hello to you folks.
I have been working on a project with two 827s and it is almost there.
Image
One side was 89' Vitesse and other side was 88' Si, both M/T.
At the moment I am working(or just thinking) on instrument cluster swap from 6 dial to 4 dial on Si and need to replace windscreen on Vitesse this summer.

This site has been great help for my project and I really appreciate it!
Have a nice summer!

Wow, thank you very much for positive replies!!

Richard, thank you very much for your compliment.
Actually it is my contemporary art project I have been working on since around 1998 so I need to be mad to continue :)
If I manage to set up any show in art venue, I will invite you all, for sure, so please show up in Rover 800 to hijack the show!

Nuts, thank you for the link, 'Bonker'.
I listened to it in the Olympic Opening without thinking much but today reading the lyrics I can share quite few things.

'Everybody says I got to get a grip But I let sanity give me the slip'

'Some people think Im bonkers But I just think Im free'

Oh what a beautiful lines!
You made my day. 8)

TDHF, thank you very much for your compliment.
Yes, that's the spirit isn't it.
It took me long time to realise that I can make other people happy by me going mad.

Interesting combination of car parts, any reason why you should use Mk1 and Mk2 bits ?

Thanks for your comment.
I thought the MK1 front design is nice and sporty but I wanted a bit more 'shiny' one for this project.
After looking for solutions I learned that I can fit MK2 grill if I change the bonnet and bumper so here you go.
May be I could swap the wings to fit side lights but most probably the budget was tight at that time.

One regret is that I didn't pick up exact same spec, year of the cars.
Si has 6 dial instrument cluster and Vitesse has 4.
I am trying to change the 6 dial one to 4 dial but, the wiring seems to be a bit beyond my understanding.
Has anyone done it here?

Hi dead827, the exhaust out let is middle of the car just underneath the side sill.

The tail tip is facing down so it is hardly visible.
Image
The outlet in the picture is from the motor on the right hand side in the picture.
So, there is another exhaust outlet on the other side of the car for the other motor (it is confusing isn't it)

Being Two Headed car, unfortunately there is no such thing as rear on this one so, there is no rear light
For the same reason, there is no parking brake so there is no MOT at the moment.
I am not even sure if it is possible to register this car to be road legal.

Even more bonkers!!

All that work, and it isnt road legal.

Then again it is art, so you are excused. Would love to see it in person. Where in London is it based? I am South, Croydon area.

At my first London Motor Show at Earls Court in 1970, Bond showed a Bond Bug that had four wheels - basically two cars, joined back to back and sharing an axle. It was the only way they could get the Bond Bug into the Motor Show as it was classified as a trike, not a car. Giving it four wheels called it as a car.

It was a Push Me Pull You affair, and Bond described it as such on their stand.

This may be simultaneously the most awful and the most awesome thing I've ever seen done to an 800!

Shame it's not road legal though. It must be possible to make it so, after all top gear managed it with their 'creations' a while ago. I suppose you could replace the bulbs in the 'back' with red ones and then wire them up to the brake and tail light circuits from the 'front'. Not sure how you'd get around the handbrake issue though!

Anyway good creation, would love to see it in the flesh sometime.
