800 coupe going cheap?
Hi everyone,
Any decent 800 coupes going? Not fussy on engine or gearbox spec (would prefer v6 manual though!) must be in a good condition with a recent service, cam-belt and water pump (I do high miles). I'm Bristol based, so anyone local selling one?
Cheers joe

Re: 800 coupe going cheap?
Are you sure you want a V6?
Silky smooth they maybe, but the 2.0 turbo has an power delivery like no other engine.
If you can find them, try both.

If you're doing high miles then I would avoid the KV6, the fuel consumption will be high and they suffer badly from head gasket failures. Unless you want the power the 2.0 (non-turbo) will be the best for doing the miles.

If by High Miles you mean mainly Motorway driving..
Then my 825 KV6 returns 400 motorway miles on a full 60 litre tank (cost around £80) of standard unleaded fuel.
Thats approx 30 MPG
In the city that will half though

Re: 800 coupe going cheap?
The 2.0 turbo will give you mid to high 20's mpg around town, and on long runs I always got better than 40mpg. Being highly geared and low compression, the turbos hardly boosting at 70mph, hence the good mpg.
As for reliability, - the T16 is a lot more reliable than many modern all alloy engines. Mines on 144k and, not unusually, still has great compression. Most of the known oil leaks (front right of block, cam seals, sump etc) are more a nuisance than fatal to the engine. The problem with the KV6 seems to be not that they are any worse than any other all alloy engine, more that once they go, they can be beyond repair. ( never had to personally repair one so never delved into finding a solution to the issues)
I think basically it was easier for the aftermarket motor industry to write off Rovers as unreliable rather than spend any time come up with a solution to the problems.

Re: 800 coupe going cheap?
Having owned both Vitesse and 827 coupés I would say the 2.7 is the best engine of the lot, it's the least trouble, does most of what a turbo will, sounds nicer and is a LOT more refined

Did you get one ?
My Sterling Coupe is available, recent MOT, no problems there, but heater not working. Suspect Matrix blocked. doesn't overheat or anything, but pretty shitty at this time of year.

Could be the heater control valve - Rimmers were selling them recently for £20 inc VAT, not sure if the offer is still on though.
