s/s exhaust & coupe wing wanted

Post by johneh » Wed Dec 17, 2014 3:55 pm

Hi,

I'm after a couple of things for my '98 coupe:-
Front wing passenger side, I missed a one that Brad was selling as I couldn't make my mind up to either replace the wing or repair. I hope this won't be a major regret.
I'd like to replace the exhaust with a stainless steel one. I've seen the twin one on ebay but that is not what I want to do.

Also I've put a topic in one of the other forums asking about roof bars.

Thanks.
Cheers
John.

Hi John - for a front wing you could try Simon on here (one of the moderators) as i bought a pair of coupe wings from him recently and seem to recall he had some more there as well. I may be mistaken though.

The exhaust you could try one of the specialist exhaust people, probably cost you about £300 ish for a basic replacement system but you can tailor it exactly how you want it.

s for roof bars, i've never seen a coupe with them on and you haven't really got anywhere to attach them - perhaps a towbar and a small trailer would be better? Certainly more economical to use!
Cheers,
Dave

I do have spare wings, but they are not for sale I am afraid.

John,

I'm thinking of replacing my SS exhaust sometime in the new year. It's a custom fit, straight through system with twin tail pipes. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, iI'm just an obsessive fiddler and fancy making some thing myself. I'll stick some pictures up, if you are interested and don't mind waiting a little while for it.
Tom.

Are coupe wings the same as a late fastback?

No, surprisingly few parts are the same actually.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies & regarding the comments:-
Dave- I have fitted a towbar & have a trailer or 2 but bars are easy to stick in the boot just in case.
Tom- I may be interested- is it a straight swap & it would have to be in good condition. The wait may not be a problem.
I got a few spares when I bought the car- the boot was almost full & there was a couple of items on the back seat. One of which was a drivers side wing but what I will need is the passenger side. It may be repairable.
The car spends most of it's time in france & does get noticed, I'm looking for a LHD but have only seen one for sale in France so far, a few in Germany, Italy & Holland but I want to avoid the re-registration. If the right one comes up in the UK then I may be interested but it would be for spares & would have to go over under it's own steam- I know I'm expecting a lot.
Cheers
John.

John - just to satisfy my curiosity, what would be so urgent it couldn't wait for you to nip home and get the trailer or even swap cars to the 75 Tourer to collect whatever you'd have to put on the roof bars? You don't have to tell me of course, i just think it would be a better solution than roof bars on a coupe.

Re the exhaust, the OE 825 KV6 exhaust is a little different to the rest of the range. However, an exhaust designed to fit virtually any other model should go on with minimal (if any) modifications so Toms exhaust should more or less be a straight swap. I only know this because i have a stainless exhaust on my 827 coupe that was previously fitted to a Mk1 827 SLi but i believe designed for a late 820 Vitesse turbo. It went on with virtually no modification except i had to remove the previously altered front end to take into account the fact it came from a non-cat car and i was fitting to a cat-equipped car.
One little bit of advice when fitting it - get all the hangers/rubbers conncected before tightening the flanges and/or clamps and work from the front to the back, it seems to go easier that way.

Also could possibly be interested in your 623 GSi if it's auto and at the right price if/when you come to part with it instead of letting it become bean cans and razor blades!
Cheers,
Dave

Has to be worth a call!

As dave said, from the catalyst back, everything should fit straight on. The only issue that may arise is that the exhaust has been made in one piece so is going to be quite large. I have the receipt from the previous owner showing it to be only about 18 months old. The condition is very good. It has twin 2.5" tails that look "right".

This is the only pic I have showing the exhaust. I'm washing it at the weekend so will take a better shot.

PM me if you are interested.
Tom.

Dave,
The example I gave re the roof bars meant that- 1. i didn't miss the item as they were going like hot cakes & 2. so I didn't have to do a return trip of a total of 60 to 70 mins.
The 623 is an auto but is in France & has been registered there.
Cheers

Some better pics of my exhaust.

Twin 2.5" slash cut tails. 2.25" piping, all silencers are straight through. The exhaust not is "fruity" but pleasant and not too loud on a T-Turbo. I'd imagine a V6 would sound beautiful.

I have some coupe roof bars, original rover genuine item with fitting instructions.
They are not really an occasional fitment and need some work on the roof line trim around the extended window.
To date I haven"t fitted them as I have had others priorities (remember the deer?), but like the idea of additional carriage options.
The other idea I have been considering is trying to fit some roof rails (e.g. from Rover Streetwise) so as to have the option of of using more universal roof bars.
Rock On!

Ian
