Re: Footwell Lights
I think i have a few floating around Dean, i fitted one in my coupé only to find the square hole is missing on the passenger side so looks like i'll be using some other lamps that either screw on to the metal rail (where the hole is meant to be) with self tappers or perhaps EL tape.
On my Sterling that had both front footwell lights as standard, i've fitted LED bulbs to give blue lighting in the footwell.
However the light units are still available from Rimmers but with a red Lens and the wrong plug :
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-AFU2810
You could buy some perspex sheet (i reckon 2mm thick should work) and cut some clear lenses out, if you wanted the frosted effect to disperse the light somewhat then Wilkinsons/Wilkos sell frosted glass effect self-adhesive film on rolls for a few quid.

Re: Footwell Lights
are you sure them ones are the same size Dave ?
I know the red lights in the end of the 827 doors, pre 95, are bigger cos I`ve tried one.
I might change it to led anyway , but I did want the original units installed.

Re: Footwell Lights
I tried one in an SD1 door a couple of years back and it fitted, was a bit loose now you come to mention it.
I think it was only the Mk1 800s that carried over the lights in the ends of the doors, neither of mine have them but my Mk1 Sterling did.
I might have a look on fleabay to see if i can find something that already has LEDs in to use about the same size as the original footwell lamps - using the puddle lamps in the kick panels is a great idea but i really want the light units to be invisible unless i have my head upside down under the dash! I know, weird!

Re: Footwell Lights
Early MK2s had the door lights too Dave as Deano has said.
No idea on the sizes though.

Re: Footwell Lights
I seem to recall seeing them recently on Deans fastback which is an early Mk2 - i kind of assumed someone had retro fitted them as i've not seen any other Mk2s with them Chris, including my early-ish Sterling.
It's a shame (and no doubt down to more penny-pinching!) they stopped fitting them, they are a valuable safety item as well as a bit of bling that was factory fitted.

Re: Footwell Lights
Quite a few things went over the years as you say.
I've definitely seen J and K plate Sterlings with them. I forget when the actual change was. Probably around the time the boot release was moved from the floor?

Re: Footwell Lights
My Sterling doesn't have them (93MY, 1994/L reg) but still has the boot release on the floor and the oddball CCU that doesn't operate the wipers when the washers are used - only made that CCU for about 6 months i believe.CHR15E wrote:Quite a few things went over the years as you say.

We all know about the loss of the rear cigar lighter on the Mk2s but it's surprising how much other stuff was dropped from the standard fitments list.

Re: Footwell Lights
Found some LED light panels that may be suitable for footwell lighting and anywhere else you fancy sticking them. They come in a variety of colours, i've picked green for my coupé and will take a while to land from Hong Kong :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361676356820? ... EBIDX%3AIT
They're 59 x 40mm so fairly easy to hide wherever you like and i know the blue ones are bright as i used to have one as a courtesy light in my Sterling.
