Wanted - Mk II 827 Sterling

Hi folks,

I've had a number of 800s in the past, I had hoped to keep the last one for the long run but sadly it was written off after a big shunt from the rear

I'm looking for an 800 I can keep, look after, take to shows etc, something that will be taken care of for the foreseeable future. I'm looking for a Mk II 2.7 Sterling, as this was the first type of 800 I had and I am most nostalgic for, but needs to be an auto because of my knee. In an ideal world the cream interior would be preferred. Don't mind doing some minor work but I'm not knowledgeable enough to do significant mechanical or body repairs so good condition would be best.

If anyone has one along those lines they are considering selling please give me a shout and send me some pictures.

The 800 bug has never gone away, and before they're all gone and its too late, I'd like to pick one up that can stay in the family and be treasured as well as be enjoyed.

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately I don't think so, i have other commitments on that day. The old girl has plenty of faults, but I've had her 13 years, I always liked them as a kid.

Lovely, I've come close to buying one a couple of times, a 2200HL, an 1800 Austin and even an 2.0HL Ambassador. The Ambassador belonged to a work colleague who bought it having had to sell his Porsche to pay his divorce settlement. He would openly admit the Ambassador was the most comfortable car he had ever driven.

Welcome aboard Chris and nice Wolseley! Very underrated car when it was new (and some would say, still is) and nice number lpate on it too!

I can't help with your search for an 827 Sterling either, sadly you've missed a couple that have come up on the forum in the past few months, one of which was scrapped. Keep your eyes on the For Sale section on here and also on ebay - sometimes they come up unexpectedly and often when they do, a cluster follows so you might get a choice of a few.

As i'm sure you're aware, they're thin on the ground now so owners are generally reluctant to sell but they do appear. You might be lucky and find a good one at a bargain price though. Good luck with your search anyway.

No problem Chris, when i first decided i wanted another 827 Sterling i had mentally short-listed what i wanted. It had to be a saloon (for preference) and it would ideally be a gold, silver or dark (Kingfisher i think the name is) blue metallic. That was early-mid February 2008.

There were a few on ebay at the time that were either too far away or a bit rough looking, high mileage (ideally i wanted under 100k but as long as it sounded and went right i was more interested in the overall condition) or had a dodgy sounding MoT or ther similar excuses for not buying them.

A week later a gold saloon appeared on the bay about 6-7 miles from home, on my way to work as well! I phoned the guy up and arranged to look at it on my way home the following evening. It had a few silly faults but nothing major and was near immaculate with just 92k on the clock and full dealer history to 77k, nice quiet engine, changed gear as it should etc.

A deal was struck and i picked it up a week later on the 29th - being a leap year i'm unlikely to forget the date! Apart from routine servicing, a master cylinder and a couple of sets of HT leads, it's been a reliable beast for me.The mileage is now about 109k and still looks almost as good now as when i got it.

Hopefully you'll have similar luck although you may have to wait a bit longer than i did!

Not sure what part of the country you're in but it looks like a good base for a very nice car. I've probably got another panel that they've screwed into the end of the dash which may even sort the heater fan - they might have jammed the tiny fan behind that panel preventing it working so the temperature sensor isn't working and disabling the fan that way.

Thanks for that, looks like the listing has ended now (or my browser isn't working right), but thanks for having a look for me. I sort of have a mental list of 'likes' or preferences too, though I wonder whether how much I should stick to that list or whether its better to be more flexible, based on the fact that there aren't as many 800s left now, so the exact thing you're after turning up at the right time isn't as likely as it might have been in the past...

Decided to take on an '93 827SLi which was advertised on the facebook page. Drove home with no issues, needs various things doing so I will post a thread on the car, various pieces of advice as well as help finding parts / trim etc would be great.

Sounds good Chris - bits (used and new) are getting thin on the ground now but i've gained a lot of knowledge of where to find alternative parts that are the same but sold for different cars etc so feel free to ask.
Good luck with the various jobs that need doing, loads of advice on here for most things!
