Windscreen trim

Post by red1 » Mon May 08, 2017 1:21 pm

Hello,
I have 2 chip on my Windscreen. Apparently I can get a new screen but the retaining clips and trim are no longer available.

Have been advised that the clips may break when removing the old screen.

Does anyone know what I can do?
Is there an alternative?
Would it look odd or cause a problem if the surround is not there? I understand the window is bonded so should be secure without clips.

Or does anyone have any spare clips and trim?

Mk2 1995 version.

Thanks

Eric

I just had the screen replaced in my 1993 827
Trim was removed and replaced without problem.

Worst case senario is that the clips may break , but it should be fine .

Thanks deano but what happens if the clips do break? Does that mean the end for my car because they are structurally important? I am not really sure what the clips do.

AFAIK the clips are just for securing the trim? Nothing to do with the integrity of the screen itself.

Would just look a bit rough, I'd have thought (if the trim couldn't be refitted), might be able to get away with just one or two going south?

Standing by to be corrected, as always!

I assume you mean these clips Eric?

They're in stock at Rimmers where according to their listing, 8 are needed per car. You could pre-empt the whole thing and order 8 to be on the safe side, then it won't be a problem if the all break. Chances are most will break, after all they will all be old and brittle by now.

They also have the boot latch cover available for order in 2-3 days for a mind-blowing 17p so you could annihilate two flying feathered things with one missile, so to speak.

Hope that is useful for you! :D

That would solve it!

Do you know those clips are same for mk1 and mk2?

I'm fairly sure the Mk1 and Mk2 used the same screen Mark (maybe with cosmetic differences) and the upper part of the car was more or less unchanged on the Mk2 "facelift" so there's a good chance they are the same. Maybe someone with a copy of the EPC will be able to confirm that, Rimmers only seem to go back to the early Mk2

They are indeed the same part for mk1 & 2 DCC10012/13 8 required for the top of screen and 10 for sides front windscreen.

Rear windscreen is DCE10038 7 required for top and 10 for sides.
