Wanted 820 clutch slave cylinder

As per the title, my nephews car has a failed slave cylinder and the seal kit I bought is nil fix so looking for a good used unit as the lads got no money for new.

I'll have a look Jez, currently having a clearout and got some 820 bits in among it all, is the master cylinder OK and have you tried bleeding the slave cylinder "upside down"?

Can't remember the details but someone was telling me recently about the slave cylinder having the bleed nipple in the wrong place for effective bleeding, it needs to be uppermost during bleeding, even if you have to temporarily remove it and cable tie the piston to prevent it making a bid for freedom during bleeding, get the bleed nipple uppermost and you might have some success. :wink: :D

Thanks for the heads up Dave, sadly the cylinder won't hold fluid.
If you have one that would be great.
Also need an 820 Vitesse rad. (Which is why the nephew can't afford a new cylinder)

I haven't but someone else is having a look to see if he has one for you Jez which kind of made me think - what about the slave cylinder on the midnight blue 820 saloon? :?

No joy at all on the Vitty rad though, would re-coring his current one be an option? :wink: :D

Charles Weaver was selling a Turbo Rad on ebay for £90 new part I believe so might be worth seeking him out on there.

Dave, you really are an Oracle. Yes, I do indeed have one on the blue car.......doh.
Re the rad we got one from a chap called Glen on face book which sadly turned out to leak more than the one we took out so Sunday ( unless I collect the Bedford J type I've just bought) I shall whip it out and see if it's repairable as the lad simply can't stretch to a new core as he's a student. (Most companies are quoting 300ish or saying they don't want to touch it )

You're welcome Jez - also if you could temporarily live without the intercooler you could use the rad from the blue one (i think you'll need the top and/or bottom hose too) to get him mobile.

Depending on what the original rad is made from, you may be able to solder a repair on it or possibly use something like JBWeld/Cold-Weld on it to block the leak.
That's assuming it's a simple leak and not leaking like an agricultural irrigation system with multiple holes in multiple places of course!

It looks like the bottom seam is a bit crusty, hopefully I can do something. If I took out the intercooler I bet he'd kill the car in a day :lol:

I bought a brand new vitesse rad a year or so back for mine for around £100 from a local factor. It was for an earlier model than mine, the only difference being the fan switch hole which needs blocking for the later cars.

Oooo-errr missus! :shock: Nothing worse than a crusty bottom! :lol:

It's crossed my mind it might be cheaper for him to MoT the blue one and use that, then do the Vitty up as a long term resto project so when he is a little older and gets the benefit of the "age-breaks" on insurance not only has he got a really nice, well sorted Vitty but can actually afford to insure it as well.

Just an idea, no doubt because he's young and probably loves the turbo-rush that idea won't go down that well but long term i think it would make better sense. He's also less likely to lose his licence (or worse!) in the 820 than a Vitty! :wink: :D

Good thinking Dave but the 820 wasn't a complete car by the time I got it. He also has a mk 2 Scirrocco that I've been helping him with so he's driving that ATM. Insurance wise it's his dads policy.

He likes his sporty motors then! Nice to see (or hear even) of a youngster getting involved in the "modern classics" though. :D

At least he has transport so he can get to college/uni which takes the heat out of having to find another rad for the Vitty. Oops - no pun intended! :lol:

I forgot the 820 wasn't complete :oops: was just trying to think of some easy way of getting him mobile quickly but if he has the Scirocco then it makes life easier. :wink: :D

The interest in classics is my fault, he's a bit lacking in confidence and worldly smarts so I convinced him that owning and maintaining a classic teaches you all you need to see you through your life.
It seems to be working :D
