Seems to be the same connectors I have. I know I put them on myself many years ago as some previous owner had just cut everything...scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2019 12:49 pmI've had another, better look on fleabay for you Henrik, there are a lot of cheaper units around but..........

The only one i've found as an option is a similar price, has been decoded (code removed) and is an R950 instead of a 960 :

There are also pics of the back so you can see the plugs it takes.

Re: Original Rover radio/stereo
You're welcome Henrik - i've still got the original stereo in my Sterling too, althogh it now lights up blue instead of red/amber. It also kicks butt in the loud stakes with a 300W amp (temporarily) slung under the parcel shelf for the back speakers (150W/channel) and another amp about half that for the front speakers waiting to be fitted.
Like you i don't necessarily want it all that loud but certain tracks just demand more amplification and the amps are there so that i don't get distortion when i do wind it up a bit.

Re: Original Rover radio/stereo
Exactly, its the distorsion I’m worried about.
I remember my dads Audi 100 he bought in 1987. He installed an expensive Panasonic head unit, top of the line Panasonic speakers and a cd-changer plus amps and the sound in that car was fabulous, so old stuff did have some quality, probably better than the cheap Chinese stuff today! Same with everything really. So getting a working original head unit is absolutely interesting!

Amps can make all the difference. Now you've got the car quiet, you'll really appreciate the amps if you get them.

Takes a high (speaker) level input which makes the wiring easier too.

Re: Original Rover radio/stereo
Morning - I've got the headunit that came out of my '98 if it's any use to you? I'd love to think that one day I'll be fussed about originality, but that's really not a massive concern for me.
It does indeed have missing buttons AND I suspect a dodgy channel (at least). Not the most appealing of offers I know, but if you can make use of it, it's yours for the cost of postage.

Just goes to show I sold up too early.
I remember struggling to sell several complete setups of headunit, changer and cable for £40 a few years ago. How times change.
Incidentally the seller shows up as being in Mansfield which is the next town to me. Small world.

Re: Original Rover radio/stereo
Yep. Prices go up now. I bought my manual Vitesse mk1 for about £120 a year ago and I know that was pretty cheap. Same with my all of my Austin stuff. 20years ago it was so cheap to get parts but now its ridiculously expensive.CHR15E wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 3:36 pmJust goes to show I sold up too early.

And yes the radio is 3 times the price of a new... But I asked at work yesterday if they thought I was crazy spending that money on a 20 year old car radio, and one of my colleagues asked if it had tape recorder, and when I said yes they gave thumbs up saying it was ok. Haha

Re: Original Rover radio/stereo
As things become rarer the price starts going up, same with the bits for the Volvo. Luckily for me, it was a niche model when it was new so any shops that have bits are selling them as "NOS to clear" and the rest of the stuff is run of the mill 7/9xx series but some bits i still struggle one. For example, the headlamps are unique to my model.Manalishi wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 8:18 pmYep. Prices go up now. I reveived my new radio today and it looks really great! But why does it have two aerial connections? Hmm...

Re: Original Rover radio/stereo
Use the top aerial connector Henrik. They're designed for the saloon/fastback range without a separate aerial (built in to the rear screen) and because of how it diplexes the signal, it's better on those (for using the HRW element as the aerial) to have two separate connectors. Just use the top one and it should diplex itself using the circuits inside.

I just fitted it and as the connection for the aerial is iso and my old is DIN I have to get an adaptor first, but I tried it with a cassette band (bluetooth) and that works. So everything is up and running!

Re: Original Rover radio/stereo
Funnily enough, no - i haven't got one of those in its original packing sadly. What i've got in the original packaging is a DIN to ISO adaptor for the aerial/radio so the original aerial lead can plug into it then it can plug onto the radio.
I haven't dug the CD-changers out yet but if you're interested i will.
