Re: Mk2 centre console
I'll have to have a look Adrian but i think i have one, seem to recall it's all part of the upper centre console but might be wrong.
Just hope i haven't binned it, i know i was using it when i made the cup holders.
I'll try and look tomorrow as long as it's not too cold out.

Re: Mk2 centre console
That'd be fantastic, thanks Dave.
Hope you're keeping well and looking after yourself.

Re: Mk2 centre console
Thanks Adrian, i'm usually fairly careful not to catch any lurgies anyway and don't go out much either so not much has really changed for during lockdown.
Had a look in a few of the usual suspect places for that upper centre console, no joy so far but there is at least one place where it might be that i won't get to for a few days.

Re: Mk2 centre console
No problem - it's for a lockdown project that I need to have swappable options for, but I may start hacking at the one in the car, depending on my tolerance for being indoors!

Re: Mk2 centre console
What's the project Adrian? I still haven't found it yet but sure it's something i wouldn't have binned so it's around somewhere.

Re: Mk2 centre console
Fitting a double DIN touch-screen job - but I want it to be reversable, so I'm experimenting with making the existing pieces (ashtray, clock, blank panel etc) modular so I can keep the clock panel.

Re: Mk2 centre console
That's going to be tricky - i remember when i made the cupholders for mine i wanted to do the same but in the end just went for it.
Also considered a double-DIN unit when i replaced my stereo recently but decided for my wants and needs, i was better off with the single DIN version of the same stereo.

Re: Mk2 centre console
Yeah, I'm not expecting it to be easy - I have an idea of making up DIN cages/scrapped stereos to hold the Rover wooden panels, but we'll see if I can get the frame to take them first!

Re: Mk2 centre console
As i'm fairly sure you've found Adrian, the wodden panels are heald on by nuts on the back and below that is basically a sheet of plastic, similar to what the poverty spec models got if they didn't have cubby holes.
I may be wrong on this but do you remember the old spindle mount to DIN slot radio adapter plates you could buy to fit a spindle mount radio onto a DIN slot? I have a feeling they would clip in nicely to the main frame of the upper console, as would DIN blanking plates if you can find the ones with the clips at the end - could only find them with clips top and bottom on fleabay.

Re: Mk2 centre console
Yeah, I've had the panels apart in the past (in order to accommodate an era-spec boost gauge, I had to trim the plastic for the clock, despite the fact that the actual hole in the wood was the correct diameter).
Currently line of thought is a double DIN cage for the actual new stereo, keep the double DIN-sized combo of clock/hazard panel and blanking wood, a tiny strip of wood from another blanking panel trimmed, and relocate the cigar lighter socket to the passenger side of the centre console.
So far, I've removed all the bracing pieces from my current centre console and played jenga and it seems to fit OK - waiting on the cage, and some contact adhesive to reattach the stone-beige leather-ish trim.

Re: Mk2 centre console
All that said, if anyone has an upper centre console, I'm still very interested in having a spare as I've made mine unreversable now.

Re: Mk2 centre console
I'm still looking Adrian and still have a few places to investigate. Half the trouble is thanks to the weather over the past few months things have been piled (aka dumped!) in the wrong places so i need to get back to some semblance of order to be able to find anything!
