Dean

Only a small thing but I'm needing a front speaker.
If the headlining fits a MK1 then I'll have that too.
Happy to drive up and take the bits off to save you the hassle.

errrr.... Dave, do I still have the speakers, or did you take them with the doorcards ?

although 800 Front speakers were never much cop, too small really compared to the rear.

My one is not the gold one in the photos, mines a coupe so I doubt the headlining would fit a MK1.... anyone else know ?

I left the speakers - what was left of them - in the car Dean. Both were what i called "halo speakers" as they each had a halo of missing speaker cone round the edge. They may have been put in the boot?

Most people change the OE speakers for something like :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004 ... detailpage

These are fitted in my coupé and sound just as good as the 13cm (5.25") Sony speakers i have in the Sterling. The OE speakers are mounted in a bespoke pod and they are difficult to remove from this pod and new speakers are even more difficult to fit in the pod - you can see why when you take the door card off but basically they have a4 little tabs that fold into slots in the pod.
I just removed the pod and speaker assembly complete and fitted the new speakers straight to the door as the lugs on 5.25"/13cm speakers are in the right place. Here's a few pics to explain better :

That more or less shows in 4 pics what i just spent ten minutes typing!

Pretty sure the coupé headlining won't fit a Mk1 but the later saloon/fastback headlining should be the same. That said for the cost of the petrol from wherever you live Jez to either SW London or Letchworth, you could probably buy a couple of cans of spray glue and a couple of metres of :

http://www.automobiletrim.com/headlining.html

Either way your current headlining has to come out, clean all the old headlining off the fibreglass headlining former then spray the glue on and fit the new. Once the new material is stuck fast cut diagonal slits across the openings, spray the inside of the headlining and fold the flaps in and secure them on the glue, cutting off the excess.
That's a very simplified method but i'm sure you can work the rest out.

I don't know what the headlining is like in Pauls car (the one this thread is about) but the rest of the interior looks very good. It should fit a Mk1 but double check the positioning of things like the reading lamps in the back, the interior lights front and back, sunroof etc.
Cheers,
Dave

Wow what a reply that's great thanks a lot.
Sadly the headlining and the padding is water damaged so I think replacement is the simple fix.
Liking the speaker link, I'll order a set.

The good thing is the former for the headlining is fibreglass so that at least is waterproof. The padding and lining would have been produced "as one" originally and fitted as one piece of material to the fibreglass former. If you go down the repair route that's a good base to work from.

I'm about Tuesday, and not too far away. As long as a mk2 headlining fits a mk1 saloon I'm happy to come up and take it out.
Need other bits too such as side trims if they match too.

Hi, I am after a pair of rear shock absorber top mounts as pictured below, if you still have them and would be prepared to part with them that would be great, thanks

Well..........it still has a pair fitted.....what condition they are in is another matter !

Not knowing the setup of these cars.......are they coilovers on the back.....or like the ZT and separate to them ? IE.......easy or hard to remove ??

Not to bad to remove as they are separate from the spring, can be a pig to twist out the hub, but once removed the car would be immobilized as they support the rear hub, unless you left the shock fitted and just removed the top you might be able to bodge something to keep the shock upright and keep the car mobile (not drivable) if you need to. Condition wise as long as the bottom triangular section is sound that would be ok. thanks
