I never had any problems either.

They get used, they wear out like everything else.

You've just answered your own argument and no the KV6 doesn't have MEMS, it's MEMS-2 made by Siemens. No real surprise cosidering Rover were owned by BMW by then

I've used it extensively in industrial applications and it isn't reliable - even the rep admitted to me there were lots of better alternatives!

I wasn't asking for an answer because I didn't know. I was merely comparing the same fob immobiliser setup over the years where other engine management systems have changed. the mems for the 2.0 has not changed as far as I'm aware.

Its been so long though I've actually forgotten what it stands for, but I know what it does.

I'm surprised you don't know about the KV6 engine management - as for MEMS it stands for

Modular
Engine
Management
System

and as far as i understand it, they designed one "core system" that could be expanded to more or less cylinders simply by adding (or maybe just programming) outputs/inputs which probably explains the wide use of full-group injection on many models.
gyrobird wrote:But the immobiliser is operated from a coded ECU and CCU regardless of MEMS as this is also the case with the 825 and nothing to do with the fob.

Does the 825 KV6 have a MEMs ECU ?

THE early Mk2 did not have the same coded ECU and CCU although the immobiliser was built into the CCU but not coded to the ECU.

This was also the case with later Mk1 but the early Mk1 actually had a separate alarm system and no CCU and nothing coded apart from the three components needed for the remote central locking to work. The early remote fob was not only matched to the receiver by the rear view mirror, it was also matched central locking module.
The ECU and CCU aren't coded to the fob in the Mk2 827, hence me being able to change all three independently. Must get round to having a look at the ECU i took out of my Sterling, it doesn't go as well with the new one!
Cheers,
Dave

I was making a wild (but seemingly accurate guess) that Dusans original question pertaining to the immobiliser could be easiest answered by explaining that the MEMS-equipped cars' immobilisers worked in a different way to the 2.7 as i felt sure his question was prompted by his knowledge of the MEMS immobiliser etc.
Quite right on both counts Dave,

Mk2a bodyshell (1993)
Mk1 High Comp non lambda engine (from an automatic Limo)
Mk1 High comp non lambda ECU for a manual car (see sticker showing MT rather than AT)
Unsure on CCU, probably original Mk2a

As I said the car was a mashup of parts. I'd bet even the original creator cannot remember now what came from where

Until this car I've only ever worked on and/or owned post 1996 820's (all manual as well)

I assumed (wrongly) that all 800's that have a CCU were matched to the ECU and fobs. My mistake, now duly noted.
The set of ECU, CCU fob and receiver are a known working set, paired or otherwise.

As an aside the KV6 runs MEMS2J

It's a very valid assumption and only to be expected given your knowledge of the 820 - the 827 has some very "odd" quirks in many respects but not so odd when you think of the Japanese side of things. To the best of my knowledge, car theft wasn't and probably still isn't a big thing in Japan so the lack of immobiliser or the complexity of the immobiliser is almost certainly down to that.

Going off on a slight tangent about the CCU - did it have programmed wash/wipe on Shitesse or did you have to flick-wipe while pulling the stalk for the washers? If it's the latter, consider the CCU sold please! Just noticed the part number on it (YWC10194) and if my brain cell is working correctly this was fitted to MY93 1/2 (Feb 94 - Aug 94) only and doesn't have the programmed wash/wipe.
Cheers,
Dave

I don't know if he still has the rad but i think it was from a manual 827 - the big difference is likely to be the coolant sensor holes. Does yours have the holes for the coolant sensors?

If Dusan no longer has the rad or isn't suitable for yours (because of the coolant sensor holes) i may be able to help - i have a rad from a 1999 825 manual with no coolant sensor holes. As far as i know, the later rads were all the same for manual cars, regardless of engine size. Might be an option if Dusan can't help.

At the moment email notifications aren't working again so you may have a bit of a wait before he checks the thread.
Cheers,
Dave

Radiator is gone. It was for an 827 manual.

Sorry :-)

In that case, if mine would be any use Richard, drop me a PM - it's a bit further to travel than Cambridge but still cheaper than a brand new one.
