2.0 coupe rear suspension

Post by Caxton820coupe » Sun Feb 05, 2017 10:21 am

Morning !
Having whacked a kerb on the n/s/r (only myself to blame..) I now need rear suspension parts as the wheel is now tucked under...if anyone has any appropriate parts, I would be very happy !
Thanks,
Dick

Check these guys out, they are reasonable with price and will remove parts and post to you unless you can get there to do it yourself.

What parts do you need Dick? I've probably got the bits you need sitting around and i'm a bit closer than the one Steve kindly linked to. :D

Thanks, Dave, I'm not entirely sure which part is bent, or broken, and I am off to my local garage tomorrow morning to try and find out on the wheel-free lift. I think that I will need the hub, damper and lower arm....and if I can get those bits, get the O/S as well..

You may only have knocked the alignment out Dick and it could be adjusted back in to spec, depends how much of a wallop you gave it though! The adjusters have a habit of seizing in the rear arms though and usually need coaxing with WD40 or similar and an impact wrench to get moving again before the can be adjusted.

Won't be able to help with the dampers though, i don't have any good ones left.

See what the diagnosis brings tomorrow and go from there though! :D
Cheers,
Dave

Hi,Dave, thanks for that.
We got the old girl up in the air this morning, and it seems I have hit front and rear N/S wheels, and the guy at the garage tells me that, not only do I need both N/S hub assemblies, but the engine subframe is a bit bent, too...however, he reckons that with some heat, and the application of brute force, he can put that bit right! So now the search begins for both damper units :-(
Cheers,
Dick

I think i have those hubs Dick, which bits of the hubs have you damaged?

What on earth did you hit and at what speed?????

As for the rear shocks :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KYB-Shock-Abs ... SwrXdXKz7j

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KYB-Shock-Abs ... Sw9ZdXK0AT

I know it says for the 827 but they are the same unless your Coupé is a turbo? The turbos had lower suspension (by about 20mm) and slightly shorter shocks, it could be standard length shocks have been fitted already though.
Cheers,
Dave

My brother did a similar thing years back in an 820. He slid off the exit of an island square into a central reservation at about 15MPH. Both right side wheels were tucked under by at least 2".

The car wasn't worth much and he was due to have his license revoked shortly after so it got stripped. I never even considered fixing it as it could easily have done a lot more damage than was obvious.

Hi,Dave, I would rather replace them now than find damage later...I was doing about 25mph, pouring rain, hit OS kerb, over-corrected, and car went sideways into NS kerb, bit of a bang, and it has done all that...so insurance claim now, keep the salvage, and get it fixed...
If you have the hubs, I would be pleased, and thanks for the link for shockers, the car is normal 2 litre, until I can find a Vitesse coupe ! :-)

That makes sense Dick, i've been suffering the lurgy for the past few days so haven't checked what bits i've got (someone else is after a few bits that i need to check for too) but fairly sure i have them. It would make sense to renew the ball joints as well when you fit the new hubs, just to be on the safe side and it's a lot easier with the front hubs already off!

Just be careful when you claim on the insurance they don't try and firstly take the car and secondly write it off in one of the categories where you can't put it back on the road! :D
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks,Dave,
when you get the time, please let me know what you have got...I have an assessor coming on Monday, they know I want to keep the car, and it should be a Category C write-off..
