Free Donation Two Headed Rover 827 (89 Vitesse +88 Si)

Post by epic1400cs » Sat Apr 15, 2017 3:20 am

::EDIT:: It is generously taken by Austinpowers. Thank you very much!

Hello everyone,
I have decided to move onto next art project and I let this one go.

As I have been helped and encouraged so much by members here, to show my appreciation, I would like to offer this two headed 827 to any member of this forum for free.
If you are interested to take it for parts or to continue the project, I feel grateful.
Unfortunately I need to move out from my garage in one week or so, if you are interested, please contact me asap.

This car was made from front halves of 89 Vitesse and 88 Si for art performance project.
There are two Honda V6 on the both end and they operate independently.

Year / Model: 1989 Vitesse and 1988 Si
Engine: 2x 2.7l Honda V6 PGMFI (on each end) and manual transmissions
Body Style: Double ended stretch limo style. Vitesse was hatch back and Si was saloon.
Colour: Exterior is Old English White, Interior is grey (Vitesse side) and navy (Si side)
Mileage: 180k (Vitesse) and 125k (Si)
Length of Mot / Tax: It is not registered and not road legal. I have V5/2 documents for the both cars.

Service History
Dealer service: Unknown
Recent Works: new clutch (Vi & Si), new front member (Si), new radiator (Si), starter motor repair (Vi), new battery (Vi & Si), new suspension dumpers (Vi & Si), new wind screen (Vi), igniter replacement (Vi & Si), new brake disks and pads (Vi & Si), oil filter base replacement (Si)

Good Points
Special history:
Probably only one Rover 827 with two fronts. It was made as a prop for my video art project and funded by Japanese art foundation. The video work may be shown in art galleries or art museums.
Modifications: The modification was done by myself as former metal fabricator specialized in steel monument construction. They were cut in half where rear door was. Then the chassis/body were welded together with additional reinforcement frame. Middle section made from two pair of rear doors. Full body respray, fabricated petrol tank with firewall, short side-out exhaust pipes, differential gear locked, steering wheel and instrument panel swap to newer type (Si), later type bonnet, grill and bumper (Vi & Si), waxoil applied inside of side sills (Vi & Si), middle section window made out of plastic
Image Image Image Image

Bad Points
Obvious faults: There is no parking brake, instrument panel need a bit of finishing (Vi), steering column cover is loose (Vi), suspension alignment is not perfect (Vi & Si), one seat belt buckle is in wrong colour (Si), LCD information panel has small leak (Vi & Si), driver's seat has tear (Vi)
Body damage: It has been repaired and good condition but paint finish may need further polishing
Rust: some rust on under chassis but has been treated as much as I could. After modification, it has been stored in the lock up garage.

General
Location: Mitcham in South London
Price: Free but please take it as a whole car
Collection: Please make arrangement of transport such as low loader. It is not road regal to drive and is about 6.4m or 21 feet long, you need long flat bed to transport. I know a company who can transport if you need.

What an amazingly generous offer! I wish i had the space and resources to take this but sadly not. It would be great to see it finished and road legal so i hope whoever has it makes that happen. :D
Cheers,
Dave

I don't think it would ever be road legal....
Theres no rear lights for one thing.
Although I suppose u could convert the front fog lights into stop and tail lamps
Don't know if height of lamps would be an issue though.

Personally I think if it were to ever be legal you'd need to accept that it won't be able to be driven from each end as you feel like it.

One end would have to become the front and the other the rear. The headlights of the rear could be used as the rear lights from other cars I've seen on the net.

Getting both engines driving the same way would have been interesting. 350 ish BHP and four wheel drive.

It's an extremely generous offer and would love to take it off your hands, i wonder if it's an option to remove one engine and make one end a "dedicated" rear end that would free up the weight and might make it easier to get through an SVA test.

I know that wouldn't be in keeping with the original design but would possibly make it easier to make it road legal.

I have the space to store it and work on it if that's the route i would take.

I don't see why that wouldn't be possible Andy, you could either lock the rack off on the rear end or remove it and fit some stud bar into the track rod ends so you could adjust the "rear" tracking, fit a floor in the "engine bay" and have a nice size boot.

As for the lights, i'm sure if you looked into LED options you could get a stop/tail bulb with either an H4 fitting or an adaptor, fit lower power H3 LED bulbs in the fog lamps to gain reversing lamps then add on a pair of generic rear fog lights so it complied.

Alternatively, turn the rear engine and box round so it drove in the correct direction and make it 4WD like Chris suggested. After all, the driveshafts are equal length on the 2.7 so shouldn't be a major headache to do it.

In a way it would be a shame to do it as it goes against the whole "double-ended" idea but i suppose it's a natural progression towards getting it legal. The gear linkage for the rear gearbox (if you turned it round to make 4WD) might be a bit of a headache though!  :D
Cheers,
Dave

Yeah my thinking would be lower spring rates on the "rear" end as well if the engine was taken out and the boot idea is cool :D

don't think having fog lamps are a MOT requirement
but I do know if you have one it has to be on a certain side

From July 1980 a rear fog guard lamp must be fitted Dean - and of course it must work! I've had a car fail on rear fogs not working, ironically the bulbs both failed as it was driven in to the test!

That aside, if there is only one rear fog lamp it must be either centrally mounted (as in some new Pugrots) or on the offside/drivers side.
Cheers,
Dave

I could never get the rear fogs to work on my old Volvo.
And I had that MOT'd twice.

Mind you I think the mot station was a bit slack
It had a dodgy electrical connection on the headlight and when the tester drove it out of the garage it wasn't workin.
I couldn't believe he had just given me a clean ticket .

Just spoke to the seller and the car has provisionally gone :(

To me :D

Yasu has problems accessing the forums so asked me to mention that it had been provisionally taken for.

What are your plans for it? Are you going to keep it whole or break it up for parts as i might be interested in a few bits.

I want to see how viable it is to get it on the road first, then I'll go from there.

It would be one of a kind if so. :D

There's a guy called Gerry Lloyd that built a Rover 150! Very similar to this but shorter and that's road legal.
