Re: Free Donation Two Headed Rover 827 (89 Vitesse +88 Si)
I have seen this car in person, and helped him get it running when an ignitior failed, amongst other thigs.
He is a really nice man. Was thinking about him the other week, and what happened to the car.
I'm close by Austin if you need a hand

Would that be this one Andy?austinpowers wrote:I want to see how viable it is to get it on the road first, then I'll go from there.n1tr0_9 wrote:What are your plans for it? Are you going to keep it whole or break it up for parts as i might be interested in a few bits.
It would be one of a kind if so.
There's a guy called Gerry Lloyd that built a Rover 150! Very similar to this but shorter and that's road legal.
What are you like making things from fibreglass? I'm thinking you could make a false headlamp lens from fibreglass and mount the tail lights/stop and fog lights in it, that would preserve the lines of the "bonnet"/"front end" while turning it into a rear end from a lighting point of view.
Just an idea for you...........

Not done anything with fibreglass but i'm sure i can do something with lights in the original headlight, the Rover 150 used the original lights and fitted bulbs as far as i can tell.

Re: Free Donation Two Headed Rover 827 (89 Vitesse +88 Si)
Excuse me everybody who have replied to this thread that I didn't write back anything till today (Sir. Admin, no offence intended, it was purely my ignorance!)
It is generously taken by Austinpowers and heading to his place this Saturday. Thank you very much Austinpowers!
Nuts4my827, long time no see and thank you for your support. I am not sure if you are still near Mitcham but if you are on this 22nd Saturday a.m. I would deeply appreciate your help. The street in front of the garage is a bit tight and I might need to control the local traffic temporarily. Thanks for your considerations in advance.
For MOT issue, I was told that TopGear once made similar car and made it road regal (two front with two engines). So there must be a way to realise it but I couldn't spend enough time to look into it due to other commitment. If not, like Rover 150, with one motor and fixed direction would be great, too! What I was thinking was to replace the headlight bulbs with red led type as brake lamps. For rear fog, retrofit OEM front fog on bumper and either tint the lens into red or use red led bulb, maybe?

Re: Free Donation Two Headed Rover 827 (89 Vitesse +88 Si)
Nice idea on the rear fogs, fitting a red bulb into the front fogs but saly it won't work. Yes it will produce red light but it will be spread "wide and low" with much reduced intensity. This is because front fog lamps are designed to spread the beam to reduce glare back from the fog and keep it low to get the light "under" the fog.
Rear fog lights are designed to be high intensity so they can be seen by following vehicles even at a distance in the fog.
If the "rear end to be" has no fog lamps at the moment, it would probably be easiest to add a pair of generic rear fogs in the slots.
Andy if you're retaining the original lamps and making them red, assuming you use the above idea for rear fogs you'll still need some reversing lights.
You could adapt my day running lights to become reversing lights :
(Click to play)
Although it doesn't look that bright i have noticed people seem to notice the car more and also at night with just those on there's enough light to manoeuvre quite happily. These are the LED bulbs i used :
https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/collec ... led-glb381
The standard 21W bulb is about 350Lm light output and these are 600Lm output so are brighter than standard. You'll also need ballast resistors for the indicators to maintain the flash rate and a new bulb holder for each.
https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/ ... ategory/81
Finally (besides sorting the wiring) you'll need a pair of indicator units where the lenses are starting to come away from the body. Finish the removal of the lenses and then pop out the stripy reflector lens followed by the amber diffuser behind it. Ideally get some 2mm thick perspex and make a clear replacement for the amber diffuser, refit everything and glue the outer lens back on - job done!
