The Trailer - For Sale

Post by CHR15E » Mon Jul 31, 2017 9:08 pm

After a lot of thought I've decided the trailer is going to be sold.

There's a fair bit to say about it, so I'll do my best to put up everything I can think of.

It was originally a 1989 827 Si Manual that I picked up for parts and decided to turn into a trailer.

There's a whole thread on here about it but it looks a little silly after Photobucket got greedy.

http://www.rover800.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4773

Bodywork/External - The car was originally white but is now Pulsar Silver to match my previous 827. With the trailer being 28 years old it is showing it's age in places but is not falling apart.

Running gear - The tyres on the trailer were new last year. I also have 2 spare wheels with good tyres on to go with it.

The hitch is a proper braked trailer hitch that pulls on the cars OE handbrake cable so it has working overrun brakes though no auto reverse.

Inside - I've done very little inside the trailer as it's been used for camping. There's a false floor in the rear with a removable section where the battery is kept. There's a couple of small bulk heads in the middle that I've used for storing chairs and tables. Plus a small shelf in the front for bits and bobs.

Where the battery is, there's a central locking unit which is remote operated for the doors. For the tailgate you can either use the key or a third button on the remote which will release the lock after holding it for 3 seconds.

The bike rack at the rear will come with it as I have no use for it. Along with the LED trailer board and now working reverse lights. Though I can remove it if not required.

New parts since it was built include:
Shocks
Springs
Brake pads
Tailgate struts
Tyres

Spares to come with it if required:
Tailgate
Doors
Bumper
Crash bar
Pair of brand new handbrake cables
Rear lights
2 matching alloys with good tyres
Plus a few other bits I think I still have for it

Not sure what else to add, I have a price in mind of £400. Which I'll accept for it as it stands. Along with a modified wheel clamp and hitch lock, which cost me £140 when I first built the trailer.

Please ask me anything I've forgot to mention. I'm putting it on here first but I'll chuck it on the usual selling site in the next few days if no one is interested in it.

Paging Austin Powers! Paging Austin Powers!

Bit of a shame you're selling it Chris but seeing as Andy already has the "Double-header" 827 (or is it 854?) this would be the perfect trailer for him.

For a camping trailer that you could in fact camp in, it's a fair price, if i had the money (and the room!) i'd have it myself but i don't - unless i have a Lottery win (a proper one, not just the £25 consolation prize) that won't change anytime soon though!

Good luck with the sale, whether it's on here or fleabay or wherever.
Cheers,
Dave

It is a shame but after buying a caravan yesterday, space is going to become an issue after Friday when I collect it.

Plus with no longer camping it's just not going to get used.

Never thought I'd see the day! Remember seeing the trailer at Bromley a few years back, very cool.

Time's change I guess. It's the sensible thing to do.

The van we've agreed to buy is a 96 Swift Classic Baronette. Nothing too flash. I'll chuck some photos up after I fetched it Friday.

It's nothing like as flash as that. :D

Maybe further down the line. I was advised to start with something relatively cheap incase we don't like it.

The trailer's now on ebay.

As yet it's had lots of views but no actual interest.

Here's a few pics of the 'new' caravan after getting it back earlier.

Yeah, we were originally looking for one with an L-shape front end but a lot of people told us to avoid them.

Well after 2 weeks of being on ebay and over 3000 page views I've still not had one message or sign of interest which surprises me a little. Not even a silly offer or two.

So the question is, why? Is it the price? Is it the stickers? Is it the bike rack? Is it something else?

I'm considering taking the bike rack off and lowering the spec of what I let go with it which in turn will reduce the price.

Should I be looking at anything else?

The alternative is strip anything off worth selling/keeping and weigh it in which I really don't want to do but would like the space.

Answers on a postcard. :D

It's probably the price Chris - most people will see it as "just another trailer" and not recognise the effort etc that has gone into building it.
Cheers,
Dave

Plus the fact that there are few Mk1 800s on the road so it narrows the market a tad.
