Couldnt you rent a council-owned garage? They go for around £20/£30 per month. If the car doesnt fit, just take the bumper off. I'm currently renting 2 council garages at £20 and £30 respectively.
See if you can do this first before selling. It'd solve your problems with storing your clutter too.

They think I am crackers for buying it in the first place tbh, however I've not had any stick for buying it as opposed to the Escort I was given and the Cabriolet (which I understand why they didn't like it, it really was a shed!)Very Tall Brad wrote: Oh dear, Dan. So sorry to hear this.

I've looked into it Mo, and at £7.40 per week is reasonable, even for someone who works weekends in a soft play centre. However they have requirements which include the tenant being over 18, which I am not. My dad did say I could rent it through him, in so much as it'd be his name on the forms, but after emailing the council about it there is a waiting list. I will add the name to the list, but chances are I could be waiting months for one (no understanding why, apparently they have over 3,000 garages in Swindon and not one of them is vacant!)Lord Sterling wrote: Couldnt you rent a council-owned garage? We shall see what occurs in the coming weeks, but chances are it will be moving on...

It can take a long time to get a garage like that. They can offer you anything in your area as well.
So not always on your doorstep.

Try and have a look around in different areas, the main one I rent is just outside Birmingham so not exactly on my doorstep but not too far away like the one in Shrops. The main is also rented through a mate, we have an agreement.
The one in Shrops came up only a few days after I asked. Again, its not excatly near (30 miles) and I didnt need to be a resident of said area. As long as I had the money and obeyed the rules I was welcome to rent the garage which I needed at the time, garages in my own immidiate area have a huge waiting list, I contacted the council in 2008, not heard from them since.
If you've got friends in different areas outside the area you live in it still might be worth a look at. It might be a bit of a journey but sometimes its worth going that little bit further.

You might find, like me that in fact many garages are vacent, but in need of refurbishment, refurbishment, no matter how little needs money, one thing that council always moan about.DLR wrote:apparently they have over 3,000 garages in Swindon and not one of them is vacant!

For what they cost to rent I can't believe they bother with them TBH. I'm surprised most haven't been flattened.

They can be a expensive at times. My Shrops garage isnt exactly worth what I pay for it each month, but I needed a garage fast at the time and they were about the only council who had bothered to come up with something.
Also, what with the current 'Tax it, SORN it or we'll crush it' "laws" from the DVLA, its does kind of make it worth it, particularly when you dont have any other form of driveway/off road land to keep a car(s) on.

Mine is £46 per month just had a 50% hike in rental costs, most people went sod that and handed the keys back, I am now the only person renting in my particular row of garages.
And a 800 is too long I can't close the door.

Still here, 'in the way'.
Taxed until the end of this month, MOT until mid October. Still in need of a battery, although will start and run off a jump-start. Polishes up well for a 15 y/o car.
Offers around £300? I am willing to negotiate. It looks like there is a '94 106 on its way, and ideally will need this sold to accommodate it. If there was space in the garage, there would be no question as it would go in there out of the way, but with the planned storage falling through, it is not fair to store it indefinately on the driveway.
If nobody is interested, then I shall ebay it over the next couple of days. Ideal parts car if needs be?

Sorry to go over old ground, does it have any known faults at the present time?DLR wrote:Still here, 'in the way'.

Battery needs replacing, as I royally screwed the current one. Door handle needs replacing (I have a spare) and rear window occasionally comes adrift from the mechanism. Again, I have a complete door with all the components needed to fix it should they be required. Also the SRS light, but that's been there since Kyle owned it. Other than that, runs fine with no issues. Bodywork average for the age, could benefit from a polish which I hope to do over the next few days, along with the handle and the window providing the weather holds out.CHR15E wrote: Sorry to go over old ground, does it have any known faults at the present time?
I am still tempted to work and save to insure it around September, but that rests on me finding a suitable 2nd job until September (college starts, so would go back to one job), especially as there's only a few hundred quid difference between a 1.0 french car (106/AX/Clio) of the same age. No doubt they would be cheaper to run overall, but why be robbed blind to eventually drive something I am not motivated to maintain? Casing point being my 50cc moped, several panels are held on with tape, the stand is tied on and now the dials no longer function. Oh, and there is only one wing mirror, indicator switch doesn't work all the time and the lights come on when they feel like it. And mechanically it has had new brakes/cable, two new throttle cables, two new drive belts, three sets of clutch rollers (for some reason it eats them and they last 5 minutes), wheel bearings replaced twice and the exhaust is blowing. I'm amazed it still goes, considering the abuse it has taken. But that's another story!
