Breaking - 1997 Rover 800 Vitesse Coupe BRG

Post by frisky2010 » Wed Dec 08, 2010 2:16 pm

Hello people,

I have decided to break the 800, and although it seems a shame, i did only buy this particular car for the engine.

Anyway, the car is still (at present) complete, and I am planning on starting to strip it this weekend. If anyone wants any parts, please PM me. Some bits may have to wait until last as i need the car to still roll down the driveway. If someone wants the rolling shell etc, i'm sure we can work somthing out.

Regards,

Chris

Just sent you a PM Chris re the rear shocks. If i had the money i'd buy the whole car and convert it to Honda power!
Cheers,

Out of curiousity, what engine is that? Do you mean the V6?

Will that engine fit in a ZR / Rover 200 / 25?

:)

I do indeed mean the V6 Chris, specifically the 2.7 unit.

As to whether it will fit an MG-ZR/Rover 200/25 i'm not sure but it will fit in a 600 engine bay and Honda even make the engine mounts! It was sold in the USA as a Honda Accord coupe, circa 93-96.

Of course it would be tempting to convert it to rear wheel drive with a big V8 under the bonnet, but that would be too much work!
Cheers,
Dave

Did the ABS work on it? If so, I'd desperatly love the front left sensor with bracket and cable... (Assuming it's the same as on an 827 Mk2)

How much do you want for it and can you post to Germany (rather quickly)?

Thanks in advance,

Alexander

Hopefully this will be helpful to all concerned, the sensors are the same!
Just been on this site and typed in the details for a '98 820 and a '94 827 and they came up with the same part number for a N/S/F (FR LH) on both models (their part number AB 1010) at about £64 +VAT and delivery.

Here's the site i checked on :-

http://buypartsby.co.uk/

Hope that clarifies things a bit!
Cheers,
Dave

No brackets by the look of it though. Could be an issue depending what tools you have.

Hmm, that's cheap compared to prices here. I'm sure we'll manage to remove the old sensor from the bracket if the sensor must not be kept.

The last time I tried to buy exhaust parts from them, they did not post to Germany though - so I had to order through a friend.

I'd still be happy with a s/h one to start with...

Only gave the link for the purposes of checking the sensors were the same lol!

More than likely find any new ones don't come with brackets but almost all second hand do as the sensors "weld" themselves into the brackets through mixed metal corrosion. A bit of copaslip on a new sensor going into a new bracket should prevent it.

Did think about getting some heavy duty nylon or maybe teflon and making some brackets out of that. The main cause of the sensors failing is in fact where the 2 metals have corroded against each other and crystals of the resultant mix have grown between the sensor and bracket, damaging both! Usually the brackets are salvageable but the sensors by then are dead!
Cheers,
Dave

All true. I've seen a few that the brackets have actually snapped and it's only the corrosion keeping the sensor in place.

Just an observation for interested parties that was all.

Hi,

Yes the ABS worked fine. I know this thanks to some stupid woman in a Corsa that stopped in front of me for no reason. ABS kicked in, and the car came to a safe and sudden stop.

How soon do you need the sensor? Feel free to make me an offer on it!

Chris.

Hi Frisky, I sent you a PM but I was enquiring whether the leatherinterior of the car was still for sale, the colour, condition and if you had a price in mind for it?
