Have done lots of work on this car but the time has come for me to get something cheaper to run and tax (i think i will get a Rover 414). I have had the car for 2 years now and has been a bit of a project,i have always wanted a Vitesse after seeing a flame red one when i started my apprentiseship with Rover group in 2000, there was one in the Gaydon training centre. Of course i was only a Rover group apprentise for a couple of months then i became a Land rover apprentise, part of Fords PAG group. But my love of Rover group cars has stuck and apart from a couple of Vauxhalls i have always had Rovers or MGs.
This 800 has beena bit unrelaibe but has been a great car to drive for the 24,000 miles i have done in her.
I will list all the work i have done below
Set of new rear brake cailpers, with pads and discs
New front pads
New o/s/f wheel bearing
Good working offside front ABS sensor
Both upper arm ball joints
Both lower ball joints
New (correct turbo part number) steering rack
Rover 820 sterling gearbox without unreilabe torsen diff
New geniue turbo clutch
Rebuilt clutch slave cylinder (using gen' parts of course)
Brand new scuttle panel trim (is for a pre 1991 so has the wiper arm park bits, though not visable as under bonnet)
second hand rust free front wings
new gen' expansion tank, which is still under parts warranty until june 2013
New gen' cat back exhaust system (correct part for the vitesse was one of the last on the shelf at Rover)
Both front outer cv boots
Cam cover gaskets replaced
Rear main oil seal replaced
NO OIL LEAKS MOT tester was very surpised by this (he is EX Rover and was telling all about the M series 800 models he used to work on when they were new
I have also serviced the car every 6000 miles. timing belt was done @ 90,000 miles in 2009 so is good until 2014 or 150,000 miles which ever is first.
The car is due a b service @ 132,000 or dec 2012.
Just passed its MOT today. Needed some welding to the nearside sill and a side lamp bulb. All work carried out and it has now passed. tax runs out of Aug 2012, but will probably retax as the car is in daily use.
very nice looking car some rust on the rear arches which is only skin deep so not to bad.
