These seem to monster glowpugs - the one I had used to start badly when one plug died

I'd agree with Richard, almost certainly the glow plugs causing the cold start problem from the description. Also worth draining any water/condensation from the bottom of the fuel filter (a tap is provided usually for those unfamiliar with diseasels) as it sounds as if it may have been sat a while.
Definitely worth a punt for someone looking for an oil-burner.

Re: green 825SD saloon no reg
Probably nothing more than duff glowplugs and/or glowplug relay. VM's are notoriously difficult to start with non working glowplugs in cold weather. Either that or there's an air leak in the fuel system causing drain back overnight but I'd look at glowplugs first. Re-registering on a UK plate would probably be more time consuming to sort than the mechanical issues and the windows. I would have gone for this but after my abortive attempt to buy an 800 diesel earlier this year I went out and bought a Rover Streetwise diesel to cope with the mammoth mileages I will be doing early next year, so the need for an 800 diesel no longer exists.
Hope someone takes it on though, a diesel on the stand at the NEC might be a talking point.

And Royal Mail is still moaning!

Re: green 825SD saloon no reg
Yes mate its leg room and comfort fall short of an 800, although that's more a testament to the 800 than a fault with the Streetwise, that and of course we are several car classes apart. But with 50+ mpg around the Forest and nearly 70 mpg on a run its an easy car to like and a bit different from the mainstream. Problem is because its so cheap to run pretty much all my other cars are falling into disuse which will do them no good at all in the long run.Very Tall Brad wrote:And Royal Mail is still moaning!

I'm a secret closet Cityrover fan as well. But, there again, I also rate the Chevy Cruze, Hyundai i20 and Kia Picanto. If anyone is huffing at reading this, go and try one. I have experienced all three, taking a Picanto hire car on a 250 journey one day. They are sound and nicely solid.

Thanks for the thought but car buying isn't on my important list right now!
