my mg maestro on ebay
I have finally made the decision to sell the maestro, the interest has surprised me somewhat..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371687788098? ... 1558.l2649
in nine days 8500 views and nearly 180 watchers, I have had a couple of silly offers and someone asking for some current photos, its not cheap but when you consider the work and bits with it not expensive either.. regards ricky

Best use of BMW headlamps i've seen in a long time Ricky! You now have another watcher!
Wrong colour/transmission for me but a worthy car nonetheless, hope someone buys it who appreciates it!

"Will you take £50, a half-eaten pork pie and my sisters dirty knickers for it?"
Can't think of any of the other silly questions i've seen but that one is probably the most memorable!
Hey, come on Ricky - you could at least post the stupid questions on the listing so we can all have a laugh!

Re: my mg maestro on ebay
it turns out that the hide question is from a group of "friends" who thought it would be funny to try and wind me up... I think they did a fair job, but it did take a few of them to think of something that random... regards ricky

Re: my mg maestro on ebay
galant vr4s are pretty rare no, they will be worth a few quid, if its a nice one one day, trouble is ricky all the kidz have evos and imprezas now, even the husband/wife combo with the blue rally jackets and matching 555 wrx sti type 5 lightweight r blah blah blah have sold them and moved on to something else, usually a z4 with msport badges stuck all over it.

Re: my mg maestro on ebay
Totally mad!
Another favourite "silly question" is Will it get me home?
Given you haven't a clue where the eejit lives or if he can afford to put enough fuel in the car and he hasn't thought of that the best answer is probably "NO!!!" because if he's daft enough to ask that, can he even drive?

Re: my mg maestro on ebay
hey, don't joke about that one...Dave
I`ve taken the train to go and pick a few cars up before (both my last 2 800s for a start) , bloody miles away.
When collecting the car I have looked the person in the eye and said "it will get me home wont it ? "
and sure enough they did, I put the down to the honesty of a rover owner though :
mind you, the coupe wouldn't start at 6am the next morning in the freezing cold
a quick look under the bonnet and found the earth lead wasn't attached to the battery , the lead was just sitting loose next to the battery post

Re: my mg maestro on ebay
You've just reminded me of a horror story i had in about 2004 when i bought a little Subaru "Noddy Van" from NW London (Watford rings a bell but might be wrong) and the bloke swore blind it would get me home - his home maybe!
Got as far as the Magic Roundabout (Hemel Hempstead) up the A1(M) or M1 whichever it was that week and there's a long, fairly steady looking incline. Baking hot day in July (think it was the hottest that year) and this Noddy Van went for an overheat. Not just any overheat, this one turned the head gasket to mush!
That was about 2pm so i phoned the RAC to come and get us - i had my step-son with me at the time. Eventually about 8pm "OnTime Recovery" turned up or as the nipper said, "OffTime" because they were so late!
Long story short, i got it home, did the HG, checked the head was flat, checked the water pump, 'stat, fan etc and re-MoT'd it, drove it around a few weeks making sure it got long, hot runs and absolutely no problems so i put it on ebay and sold it for about £260 - it lasted as far as Stansted Airport when the HG went pop! Obviously it didn't like motorways!
These days i don't ask will it get me home, i just make sure i have my RAC card with me!

Re: my mg maestro on ebay
never really had a problem with a car I have bought from afar.. most have been spot on, worst was a rover 25 non runner immo permanently on... expected to be towing it from oxford way to slough, put a jump pack on it stood chatting to the owner playing with the remote it went bleep and cleared itself... started it up and drove it home, the owner was gutted to say the least... regards ricky

Re: my mg maestro on ebay
By an unexpected turn of events i picked up another beastie today from Rickmansworth (about 200 miles round trip) and despite a major fault described in the listing, it actually turned out to be relatively minor and it drove home really well.
http://rover800.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=14046
That links to the thread for it, amazingly good for a 28 year old car! Better than when i bought my Jeep last year and the steering fault that was meant to have been fixed was in fact very serious like the steering box was only attached via the column, hydraulic hoses and Pitman Arm! Made it home in one piece with no victims along the way though!
