New Konis
I was bidding on these the other day but was outbid at the last minute.
After receiving a second chance offer, the seller (Mark) has said that he has several sets available. As well some MK2 fronts.
Please be aware that the rears are for a MK1 and you would need a matching top mount to use them on a MK2.
He's going to check and get back to me tomorrow.
Anybody interested in them?
I think it'd be fair to assume £40 per pair. I'll try and get a better price if there's enough interest.
As a guide on price I've just checked Motobuild's website and they quote £360 for a set of shocks.
I'm after 2 sets of fronts and one set of rears as that'd give me a new set on the fastback and Sterling as well as a spare set.

I'd buy the lot myself but even I realise that'd be crazy.
On second thoughts.
I should also add that the reason the guy made this contact is that I bought a set from him earlier in the year (April I think) and that set is on the rear of my fastback without fault so far.

Hi Chris - at £40 a pair you can't say no..!! I'd definitely be interested in a full set (mk2 fronts obviously).
Sort of reiterating/rewording Mike's question, I assume you can't adapt the rear dampers to take a Mk2 top mount?
If not it's off to the "Parts Wanted" section!!!
Cheers,
Malcolm

If they're mk1 struts you'll need mk1 strut tops.MG Mal wrote: I have spare MK2 rear top mounts, so I should be ok ?
I wonder if we could get an adapter machined up for fitting mk2 strut tops to mk1 struts?

Im interested too Chirs, Mk2 fronts and something to help convert the Mk1s to fit the rear.
Ive got a set of Koni Reds on Sterling at the moment (purchased of Paul Marsh many moons ago) and they are top stuff. Improves the handling no end without being too harsh, and thats from a bloke with seriously bad back problems!!!

I fitted a set of Mk1's with propper topmount to my Mk2 saloon. Didn't run properly at all. Travel was wrong. IIRC, the shock length was nearly right, but the distance from the mounting surface to the hub mount was different, and made them bottom out easily. Sold them after about 50 miles on here.
Might be worth double checking before everyone orders some. Sorry if i'm wrong btw.....

Could have been a bump stop problem?Nuts4my827 wrote:I fitted a set of Mk1's with propper topmount to my Mk2 saloon. Didn't run properly at all. Travel was wrong. To be fair I haven't run MK1 shocks on a MK2.
I personally can't see why they'd be different but understand why people would be cautious.
The other way round you could. The MK1 shocks are fatter so it would be the damper itself that would need machining rather than the mount.Richard Moss wrote:If they're mk1 struts you'll need mk1 strut tops.MG Mal wrote: I have spare MK2 rear top mounts, so I should be ok ?

Please be aware folks that you will need a pair of rear MK1 strut tops to fit MK1 shocks on a MK2 car.
I'm expecting a call from the guy later and will post up as soon as he lets me know what's available.
