Low-end Canon zoom lens

Post by Vard66 » Sat Dec 11, 2010 6:57 pm

I'm looking to pick up a zoom lens, the 18-55 kit lens just isn't really versatile enough for my needs I'm finding.

It's for a Canon EOS, and I'm not made of money, nor anywhere near professional enough to justify spending £500+, so I'm looking for something along the lines of;
  • Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS,
  • Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM (though I'm not so worried about the USM that I won't take one of the normal DC motored non-USM versions)
  • Canon EF-S 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 USM IS
  • Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Any of the above I'd be interested in, and could possibly be tempted to look at a nifty fifty (Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II), or a Battery Grip (BG-E3) if anyone pointed me at one for the right price, tbh.

Not so worried about accessories (of course, a lens hood or UV filter with the lens would be nice) with the above, but I won't buy one without lens caps.

Anyone have anything they're selling, or know of anyone who is?

If so, please grab my attention somehow!
Vard.

If I were you I would also have a look at the Sigma and Tamron Variants. Mostly they offer you more quality, light and a better price compared to the low end Canon lenses.
Go for something around 18-200 and you'll be mostly dustfree as well cause you don't have to change lenses.
Job.

Agree with Job on that score. I had a sigma 70 - 300 lens on my old Canon EOS and I could fault it. I now have a Tamron 70 -300 for my Nikon and that is very nice. They both brilliant quality and a lot cheaper than Canon or Nikon lenses.

Something like this I had
