Blimey, not the usual sort of thing we see on here.
Alex is in to old stereos, not sure if this is his thing or not. He'll belong soon enough I imagine.

I'm amazed you're selling it Russ! For about 15 years now i've jealously guarded my bit of retro home audio - a Sharp vertical music centre that has a 3 band tuner, tape deck and vertical auto-reverse record deck. That's right, an auto-reverse record deck! If i had the money (i'd find the space somehow) i'd almost certainly buy it from you but with the dreaded MoT coming up (although i'm quietly hopeful, fingers crossed!) and something weird going on with my insurance, i daren't really spend any money. I've even put a few car projects on the back burner such as my LED instrument pack, the day-running lights, exterior door handle illumination etc etc.
If you do find a buyer then i hope he (she?) looks after it in the manner it deserves and to be honest, in a funny kind of way i hope you don't find a buyer as i'm sure you'll regret selling it if you do!

My sister had one of those, had a door which opened and you drop the record ito it. Twin stylii system. It looked good and sounded great too. Sharp made a lot of the Realistic high end tape decks (I have two SCT80's which need a couple of drive belts, 34cm long ).scoobyh123 wrote:For about 15 years now i've jealously guarded my bit of retro home audio - a Sharp vertical music centre that has a 3 band tuner, tape deck and vertical auto-reverse record deck. My speakers are my pride and joy, Optimus 400's.

That's the kiddy! Press a button and the "lid" opens up letting you drop the disc in. Press the button again and it closes (with a little help on mine) and starts playing. There was also a twin cassette version of the same animal - only ever seen one of those owned by a bloke who i only knew as "Maggot"!
Didn't realise Sharp made stuff for Tandy/Radio Shack but i'm not surprised. A lot of the Currys/Dixons own brand stuff (Saisho, Matsui etc) was often made by high end manufacturers. It's another way of them selling their kit after all.
Can't remember what speakers (Teleton maybe?) i have with my Sharp system but they're not the standard ones. I seem to recall they have hefty Sanyo drive units in them and sound good even now. That said, my Sony stack system still has a terrific sound despite being 20 ish years old with the added bonus of a vinyl deck - very useful just now as i'm "digitizing" my vinyl collection using "Audacity" software (free download from filehippo ) to record/edit the music and Windows media player to burn the discs.
Can't bring Optimus 400 speakers to mind just now but i have heard of them and know they're good speakers. As my neighbours work shifts, i don't often get the opportunity to give my speakers a good run so have got some nice speakers in the car which seem to do well even with the standard system in there. I only make my ear-drums bleed in the car these days!
Can't help you on the drive belts i'm afraid but have you tried typing 34cm belt into ebay?

I know where I can get the belts, just need the money as they are quite expensive at nearly £13 a pop, it's not the same length as a turntable belt or I'd be getting a couple of those although they'd probably be quite dear too.
Realistic Optimus 400 without cover, recently replaced the foam edging on the cones for neoprene ones which should last for a while.
... and with cover.
Realistic SCT80 autoreverse cassette deck (I have two) along with a Genexxa (Tandy brand name replacing Realistic) equaliser and an old Technics deck.
Finally, my Realistic LAB2100 linear tracking, direct drive turntable in mint condition.
