magazine archives

Post by TDHFastback » Mon Aug 05, 2013 10:46 am

As well as driving 800s I also enjoy reading about them. Over the years I have collected many magazine articles about the marque from either auto jumbles or e-bay.
The annoying think about e-bay I have found is that sellers describe a magazine having an 800 article and when you get it its only 10 lines at the bottom of page 72

I've listed below a list of all the magazines I have with their content and comments. If anyone out there has any which are missing if you PM me the details I will add them to the list so we all have a comprehensive list at our disposal of which magazines over the years contained 800 articles.

I've also listed the Reg numbers of the cars in the articles. You never know you may have an ex press vehicle..............

That's quite a list there, I also have a couple of sales brochures, a 1998 Rover 800 Specific and a 1998 Rover product range detailing all cars along with some other odds and sods including a couple of magazine posters, although no press reports.

If anybody has time to photocopy what they have I would be interested as I am toying around with creating an archive of information (manuals, press reviews etc...) tagged onto the end of a website about the work I do on my car (which will one day be up and running at my800.co.uk

Like you Kate, I've got loads of Car mags with 800s in them, in fact, I've got too many.

Regarding the C-plate cars, there was someone here who claimed to own one which had an engine problem, but no proof of this has ever been seen. I, personally, highly doubt there any C-platers left at all. I sincerely hope that I am proved wrong.

Many of the C-platers were registered as 'Austins' rather than Rovers and some of them were registered with slightly different engine sizes, such as C186 RUY, registered as an 'Austin' on the 14-02-1986, date of liability: 17-12-1986 with engine size cc 2493cc. Subsequent 825s were registered as 2494cc. Sometimes pre-production cars were (probably lazily) registered simply as 2500cc or 2000cc.

G598RRG, a Black 827 Sterling, a former Mayoral car was owned by Brad at some point.

I've got a mag somewhere featuring a H-reg mk2 800 as taken by a passer by.

When i owned my H reg 1990 Mk1 sterling, which i bought in 1995....
There was a company over in slough that used to do `body kits` for the 800.
They also changed the bonnet over for the later Chrome Grille design...

Hence a Rover 800 1990 with a chrome grille.... maybes

They were called.. Moto Build

No Deano.

It was a mk2 being tested by Rover. A passer by caught some snaps and sent them to a car magazine who printed them.

I don't like Moto-Bodge tat, 200 grilles on mk1 bonnets or mk2 bonnets on mk1s either, as I had on my mk1 827Si.

Its easy to tell the difference between a mk1 and mk2.

Kate - if you have the stamina to scan them I can easily add them to the archive of manuals and vids. I could probably scan them too if you are prepared to send them over, probably in batches!
Just a thought.
