I've also bought a Jaguar
Jaguar XJ8
Can't believe how inexpensive the X308 is at the moment, I've just bought this one for less than the price of a set of tyres, 15 years old so it qualifies for classic insurance, 58k FJSH but it had no MOT which meant I had to book it in before driving 100 miles to my MOT station
It passed with the same advisories as last year, slight corrosion on the front brake pipes and slight play in a bottom balljoint. Hardly surprising as it's only done 300 miles since the last MOT
It belonged to a farmer and was caked in mud, so when I left the farm I drove to the nearest jet wash and gave the underneath a good blast with the jet wash.
This was the arrival at the house
So after a day of cleaning it up it now looks like this
Insurance certificate arrived in the post today so I now have road tax and all legal. Had to take it out for a drive, managed to use Sport mode and OMG what a difference that makes.

You enjoy this sort of thing don't you, John. Renovating a car to better than new condition with your waxes and potions. You've already doubled it's value.
I, too, like these cars but don't fit them easily. Otherwise, I would have bought one a while ago myself. Very very nice. And, dare I say it, you look like the typical English gent now, I'll bet!

The bust belongs to SWMBO so I'm innocent
As for the seat cover, that was put on at the MOT station and now removed and will post it down to you soon

I've never tried an X300 or X308 but the interiors are nicer than the XJ40 and the cars are generally said to be more reliable than the XJ40, too. That said, I'm not 100% convinced about the styling of the rear end but at least you don't see that from the driver's seat.
All older Jaguars are tremendous value for money and if you can afford the fuel then they are not that expensive to run. Parts from specialists such as David Manners are affordable and even be cheaper sometimes when ordered direct from Jaguar (delivered to your dealer at no extra charge) : http://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/ja ... x308-parts

I noticed a yellow bottle next to the car in one photo, is it Farécla G3? I use this – it's very effective for paint renovation.

Re: I've also bought a Jaguar
Loving this barging stuff.
Went to a scrap yard today and bought a door seal, full set of genuine Jaguar Rubber mats, rubber seal for under the bonnet, leather service wallet, two brand new Jaguar 12v cigarette lighters and a couple of odds and sods all for a tenner
The driver mat was worn through so I removed the carpet piece and cut a new carpet for it

Re: I've also bought a Jaguar
I'm after one of these just now. Got the specialist place I took the X-type to last weekend to keep a look out for me.
The X-Type is nice but I really fancy 4.0 XJ. Or a Daimler 6. Or a Daimler Double 6. Or a Supercharged..................you get my point.

Re: I've also bought a Jaguar
I looked at the XJ6 and truth be told the straight 6 is a fantastic engine but that interior... that dash looks like it was designed in the 1970s.
The XJR is a beast and I did take a few for a test drive, but the problem with them is when they break they are expensive to repair, and they usually have a hard life getting red lined and trashed around.
The 4.0 litre V8 is very nice but they seem to be a heck of a lot more expensive to buy although they are supposedly equally good (or bad depending on your outlook) on fuel consumption with the 3.2 engine.
The 3.2 is a lot of car for the money and certainly no slouch when you hit the sports mode button, parts are plentiful and if you don't mind the fuel costs then it is a great car to cruise around in. I've done more miles in my XJ8 past few days than it's done in the last year and every time I take it out it just seems to get better and better, I doubt if it did it any good sitting around.

Re: I've also bought a Jaguar
Some interior pictures. Slight bit of Jaguar bolster wear on the driver's seat but no shine on the leather anywhere.
All I have done is vacuum the interior and give the leather a light wipe with some APC.
The boot is also like new
I have done nothing in here, it also looks like it's had an easy life
