Really not sure what to do at the minute. I do still have the generator idea in my head.

TBH I may just have it set so I can use the lights to be able to see when going in and out and then if I need to work in it use the generator.

That said I'm sure what I'd be powering as I have a decent set of cordless tools now so it may only be for charging them.

One of those things that will probably evolve "organically" then! :D

I'm really impressed by this build. It's always nice to see things being done properly.

But I'm just wondering about how much all this engineering weighs...

Reckon he's got just enough of his 750kg weight limit for a sack of spuds Tom!

Joking aside, i totally agree, it is nice to see it done properly. :D

You and me both!

At some point in the near future I need to get it weighed so I know exactly where I stand.
Fortunately as it's braked the GVW is 900KG, so hopefully shouldn't be that bad.....I hope. :D

That'll be an extra 3 sacks of spuds then!

I was really surprised a couple of years back when i hired a trailer to collect my coupé - i guessed the trailer would be about 200-250kg, 300kg at the most. I was amazed to find it actually weighed 660kg! That meant i was actually dragging 2130kg on the back of my old 740GLE, no wonder it grunted a bit at some of the hills in the west country!

Dave

Just slightly over weight then!

I'm hoping it to not be more than about 400KG. That would still give me 500KG which should be more than enough for the sorts of things I usually move.

If I get time this week I'll take it down a local bridge as a guide.

Just a wee bit - considering the 740GLE weighs in about 1450kg it takes the Gross Train Weight over 3500kg as well! Part of the reason i'm not too worried this Volvo doesn't have a towbar as it's all too easy to overload it. I used the same trailer when i bought the KV6 that i broke but dragged it with the Jeep which had a 2.5T (5000lb rated) towbar and the ability to drag that much including an auxiliary ATF cooler and Trac-Loc diff.

Hope your trailer comes out as good or better than you think on the bridge! :D

Dave

Took the trailer out for a test tow last night, all seemed good though I think I'm going to reduce the tyre pressures as it seemed a little more skippy than before.

Only real issue I had is the extension mirrors my Uncle donated to me are useless so I'll have to get another better set.

The front marker lights at the bottom of the trailer are in the line of the mirrors and at first seemed too much but I got use to them after a short while. Not sure I need the extra set in the middle with how bright the others are.

Fitted up some more reflectors, as ever I think I might have over done it? :D

I've fitted the extra ones on the rear as the triangles aren't seen when the doors are open. So I've tried to cover all the extremes so the doors and the trailer are seen if it's ever being loaded at night.

From the side. I've got a few videos of the trailer being towed off my dash cam but the quality drops too much to make it worthwhile uploading them.

Blimey! Paint the wood green and someone would swear there was a Christmas Tree following your car!
Seriously though if anyone hits that at night they need their eyes tested! 8)

You would hope not anyway.

Time will tell. First proper outing Saturday to help my brother move, find out then what I want to alter or add then.

Only thing I've really got to say is I've decided that any of the front marker lights need to be out of sight of my mirrors. It's fine in dusk and better light conditions but in the actual dark it makes it near on impossible to see past the trailer.

So I'm going to disconnect the lower set and then maybe see about using them as sort of work lights for when I'm parking up.

I still fancy the idea of having the reversing lights working so I need to get the switch swapped on the car as they aren't reliable at the minute. Then decide on wiring to the trailer.

Not sure on the legalities of this idea Chris but what about shifting the marker lights onto the side walls of the trailer mounted on angle brackets so they still face forwards? It may deflect the glare and move them just far enough out of your line of sight from your mirrors to make it possible to keep all 3 pairs?

Dave
