Not in this life. No more French cars ever again. :D

Tbh I'm not interested in cars like I once was, maybe that will change later on when I get nostalgic? For now I'm enjoying whatever takes my fancy. Currently that's projects at home.

Every French car i've ever known should carry a government health warning!

French cars in my experience are vastly inconsistent. My mother's C3 was a total joke and a very poor replacement for her Rover, breaking down 3 times in 18 months. It was replaced by a Pug 207 and that was utterly excellent and the model she chose (1.6 VTi 120 auto) actually shares its powerplant with the R56 MINI Cooper which is no slow coach either. In the time she owned it, it never gave her concern and returned 40 mpg all day long.

My father's Renault Scenic MK1 was also a joke, blowing its HG at just 4 years old and never sounded right ever again, its replacement, a Pug 307CC (he had a bit of a midlife crisis!) was very reliable, if a little slow, due to the heft of the electronic roof mechanism.

My cousin had a Xsara Picasso that did 200k without complaint, yet its replacement, a Scenic MK2, barely had 60k on the clock before it suffered a number of expensive electrical maladies, its replacement, a Citroen C5, has double the mileage but has completed almost a years service with just 1 blown bulb to its detriment!

With issues like that, it amazes me how many 'armchair punters/keyboard warrors have the gall to sit on social media criticising Rovers, MGs and the modern Chinese MG products....

Most of the armchair punters/keyboard warriors as you describe them were motoring journalists "given" a new Frog-wagon every year with any minor (or indeed major) faults fixed instantly, even if it meant replacing the vehicle.
As such, millions of Faceachers read "glowing reports" of French cars and because they'd read it on Faceache, it must be right so they rushed out and bought one on 0% finance, deposit paid as those deals were extremely plentiful back in the 90s - for French cars anyway!
A long-standing friend of mine (who sadly i lost contact with about 15 years back) found himself working in the Warranty Dept of the Peugeot dealer just up the road from where he lived. He was permanently working overtime/late just to keep up with the warranty claims and it wasn't a particularly big dealership either - gives you some idea!

Dave

I think you could probably argue that with a lot of manufacturers?

Of all the Marques owned by my family, Rover comes top for reliability, closely followed by Fiat. Yet according to What Car, Auto Express, et al these were/are crap cars that only a fool would buy....

Just for a bit of novelty I've been keeping an eye on the mileage of the Kia each month.

As I came back to this thread I've noticed none of the pictures are working on the first page. It seems Photobucket have restricted me sharing photos. Need to decide on a plan for that.

Any way back to the mileage, so my Mum's had the car a few days shy of 6 months now. So how many miles do you think the car has done?

It's used daily, though doesn't go far very far.

Good job I'd planned to show you with pictures of the dash. :D

Plenty of evidence that the SAIC MG cars are setting new standards for poor quality and reliability issues.

I reckon French cars get a bad press because they are often the vehicle of choice for people who don't car about cars and have little mechanical sympathy.

Definitely a Kia, I added to the old post about the new car at the beginning of the year.

No pics now though as sharing is now a paid for option on Photobucket.

I'm in the process of saving my photos and deleting my account. Going to ruin here for a while though.

Yeah, here and a million other forums. So frustrating - I'm not looking forward to updating all my threads!

I'm experimenting with flickr which seems to have mega sized free storage and relatively straightforward sharing

(yes, it worked!)

I've just bought and then sold this ZT.

Must have missed the bit about changing to the Kia Chris!

I seem to still have free sharing on Photobuck'ay, i tried Flickr a while back but couldn't get on with it. Just to test out the fact i still have free sharing on PB, here's a totally unrelated and gratuitous shot of my pooch :

Image

I'm fairly certain PB have put limits on how many pics you can share free in a given time so maybe you've reached that quota and i'm probably not far behind! :D

Unfortunately for here I'm not sure I'd go to the trouble unless there was an easy way to swap the links.

Didn't like the ZT?

I don't share that many these days over what's been there for months/years.

It will really spoil a lot of forums. Wouldn't have been so bad if the subscription had been set at a sensible level. They want 399$ to keep my links working!
