Re: Shaun's Vitesse
Nice work with the USB switch Shaun and i am green with envy as Le-man is something I've always wanted to go to.
Just a note of caution on the water pump. I had a couple of aftermarket water pumps and both failed to seal correctly. The finish of the casting was poor. All is not lost though and i'm sure you know what your doing but Ron at best of British is selling NOS for £19.95

You can tell from the photo that the casting is far superior than the aftermarket, I've had a couple from Ron X1 on L series diesel and X1 on Vitesse turbo both without any issues.

Re: Shaun's Vitesse
Nifty bit of kit that socket.
I washed my car for the first time in 5 months week before last.
Have you got any concerns on taking the Vitesse so far as it gets older?

Re: Shaun's Vitesse
That USB socket does look handy - got any links please Shaun? Not sure where i'd fit it though as all 4 centre console switch holes are filled on the Coupé, i built a USB socket into a switch blank on the Sterling in the switches to the right of the instrument pod.
It's only a 1A output from a single LM7805 5V voltage regulator but i use the sat-nav on my phone so doesn't need to be much more. That said on a long journey i turn the sat-nav app off as it takes a lot of power and even with 1A coming in, the battery can still run flat.

This will be the third time in the Vitesse, thoroughly recommend it. Don't go every year due to the expenserovercoup wrote:Nice work with the USB switch Shaun and i am green with envy as Le-man is something I've always wanted to go
Wish i'd seen that link to the water pump before, already bought one, Comline from the factors, same price I think.
Yes thats why i'm trying make it as reliable as possible, usually do between 12 and 1500 miles but don't expect to see another 800CHR15E wrote:Have you got any concerns on taking the Vitesse so far as it gets older?
This is the one I got, supposed to be 2.1 amp, not had chance to test it yet. Came with a wiring kit with inline fuse, thought i'd give it a try for seven quid.scoobyh123 wrote:That USB socket does look handy - got any links please Shaun?

Re: Shaun's Vitesse
Thanks for that Shaun - i might sacrifice the instrument dimmer or maybe mount it where the airbag was once i remove it and fit the other things in there.

Re: Shaun's Vitesse
Water pump done, pretty straight forward on the T series even with the Turbo. A right sod to get the air out after re filling, took quite a bit of squeezing the coolant pipes. Couldn't get as much coolant in as what came out at first. Been for a drive and seems ok,nothing leaking(yet).

Re: Shaun's Vitesse
Joking aside what did you think of the casting as opposed to what looks like a OEM part that you swapped out? The ones that did not work for me had quite a rough finish to the casting surface although very shiny as opposed to the OEM part.
pleased that you got a good seal though. Did you use anything else to help seal or just the supplied rubber seals?

Re: Shaun's Vitesse
I think you can see on the impeller side the casting isn't as smooth on the new pump which probably backs up what you said. Will have to keep a close eye on it and get a few more miles on the clock. Used a smear of sealant as well, but more to stop the gaskets slipping on re assembly. Watch this space

Re: Shaun's Vitesse
Taking advantage of the good weather managed to get a bit more done.
First the auxiliary drive belt, not a big job on the T series. When I did the cam belt a few weeks back, a quick glance at the auxiliary showed a bit of cracking, so that is now replaced.
Then onto the manifold gasket. For a while I've had a bit of ticking coming from the manifold which goes away once the engine warmed up. Three of the five manifold stud threads have been a bit dodgy for a while and couldn't be tightened up. I've had a new set of stainless studs and brass nuts and washers sat in the shed for a couple of years now (can't remember what the story is with the stainless and brass, different expansion rates I think. They were purchased from a tuning/racing site). Managed to get the old studs out easy enough using the two bolt method. Then Helicoiled the stripped ones, new studs, new gaskets(manifold and turbo) and all back together after giving the manifold a quick spray with some heat resistant paint and YES after a test run no more ticking
One of the exhaust manifold studs, that will be the reason they wouldn't tighten then
I think that might have been blowing a bit
Also looked like it was blowing at the join between the manifold and turbo
And the manifold after a coat of paint

Good work there shaun.
What tool do you use to split the turbo away from the manifold as i can never find anything to fit

It does feel quite a bit quicker through the gear changes and I can now drive with the window open without getting asphyxiated.scoobyh123 wrote:Nice work, bet it goes a bit better now as well?
Never had a problem separating the turbo from manifold, just unbolt it and it falls apart and I usually put gasket seal on. For the first time ever I bought the little gasket for it, never used one beforerovercoup wrote:Good work there shaun.
