cheers
I'll keep you all posted on it's progress. It's gone off to my mate Kieren for a fresh MOT, Cambelt change and full service. I'm still struggling to find the right wheel trims though grrr

Agree, they're at least in period with the car. Plus, fitted to vehicles that came out of the same factory if you get anyone being picky over your choice of trims.

I've got the perfect period in-car entertainment from my collection to go in it too, it's an early 80's Fujitsu Ten component system, I found this brand new in box, complete with original amp and speakers. This would've been an incredibly expensive set in it's day, Fujitsu made stereos as original equipment for high end Toyota's and Honda's
Perfect for a bit of Duran Duran or Shakatak!

Re: Ryan's 1987 820e (pic heavy)
Just had a list from my mate Kieren who has given the the e a good inspection, Kierens a top notch mechanic who also happens to own a small fleet of 800's and an SD1 of his own so he's one of the few people I trust to work on my 800's. This is how it's looking..
Well here we go.... Service wise:- Oil and filter, plugs, fuel filter, air filter. Brakes are quite healthy apart from ancient brake fluid! Cambelt is certainly due, but hidden behind is the water pump...which is dribbling away gently (one of those too then and antifreeze). Alternator belt is cracking up (I know that feeling) Automatic Gearbox fluid could do with changing (but you mentioned that anyway). MoT test wise.. Needs an osf tyre (worn away to bugger all on the inner edge! Probably didn't get its tracking reset after a track rod joint was replaced) an advisory is the nsf tyre...Nail right in the outer edge, so not repairable. Os and ns outer driveshaft gaiters are heavily perished (just about to split open) The rear inner wheel arches are looking dodgy. .not gone through, but it might not all be metal in a couple of places (can only really advise that as we aren't allowed to dig) rear ends of both sills looking a bit poo. Other than that a few niggles:- central locking, interior lamp switch on drivers door, pas belt floppy. .blah blah etc. Things to watch are.... fuel filler neck, front anti roll bar links, slight play in nsf wheel bearings (might go when the driveshaft gaiters are done) alternator grumbles a little bit...
So. . Major Service, Cambelt, water pump and antifreeze, automatic transmission fluid change, brake fluid change, MoT test, tracking, rotor arm, interior lamp switch, (hopefully stop the central locking mental fit) both outer driveshaft gaiters and tyres... There is limited choice on tyres (same size as my sd1) so depending on which tyres... Nexen or Michelin. With Nexen tyres £570.80 or Michelin £626.00 all inc vat.
Not too bad for a 28 year old car I guess but I'm going to have to get a bit of overtime in to pay that tab off!

Nothing wrong with a 4 pot. I thought they had the newer style Philips stereos by the time 1990 came round?

Re: Ryan's 1987 820e (pic heavy)
Very nice car Ryan and a definite bargain with all the information/history that came with it. The wheeltrims are reminiscent of the early Vitesse wheels - i wonder if that was intentional on the part of the previous owner? If your mate does come up with the correct trims (plain except for 2 rows of holes round the edge as i recall?) it might pay to just clean them up and keep them for "show use only" and leave the aftermarket trims on for every day use. Imagine how gutted you'd be if you lost or scuffed one of the correct trims in daily use!
Daft question, have you tried Rimmers for the correct trims? They don't seem to be listed but you never know.

Re: Ryan's 1987 820e (pic heavy)
Hi Dave, yes i've tried Rimmer's. That's where I got the Montego trims that are now on it, to be fair the Monty ones don't look that out of place at all so i'm not too worried, it would be nice if the correct ones do turn up though.
I'm really happy with the car, it drives brilliantly and as you say, it's got such a lovely story behind it. It's a little bit crusty in places but the task of repairing and improving has started so at least it wont deteriorate anymore. It was sitting for quite some time before I bought it, albeit in a garage
