Re: 827 Coupe
Those rear transverse links don't look healthy at all! I suspect sandblasting would be way too rough for them but this works well :
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4181
I've even used it to free off rusted rear wheel alignment adjusters in the trailing arms!
Also a word to the wise - if you are towing regularly with your coupé then prepare yourself for some new springs in the near future. Apparently a previous owner of my coupé towed a "small dinghy" fairly frequently and the rear springs were gone. If it's an auto then it would be wise to invest in an auxiliary ATF oil cooler as well :
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00O ... ROKL5A1OLE
That is the exact same one as Honda fitted as standard to the 2.7 Legends and Rover sold as an accessory - still available from Honda for about £1000 if you want a fancy box!
Towing limit on the standard 827 auto is 1000kg but if you fit one of those, it jumps to 1600kg. All because of the extra fluid cooling of the ATF!

Re: 827 Coupe
Hello Shaun and Dave,
thank You very much for Your advice and warning, I appreciate them!
Hopefully the transverse links can be restored and rust proofed and other vital parts will not be affected so severe
(when did I say this before?
I usually tow about 800 miles a year, but do not want to tow with the Coupe, which I have used only for short runs so far.
I have towed extensively with a Rover 825SD, which has been a very pleasant and sure footed towing car.
But I would prefer the automatic transmission of the 827 for towing,
especially in stop and go situations or when starting again from a standstill on steep inclines.
I am aware, this requires a top notch condition of the cooling system (including the auto transmission),
just another item on the Todo list.
At least I know where to spend my spare time (besides fixing my cantankerous outboard auxiliary)!
Best regards,
Black Sterling

Re: 827 Coupe
Dear forum members,
I am very pleased, the BRG 827Si recently has got its new MOT (0.0 CO, 12 ppm HC, Lambda 1.003)
and, as effortlessly as anything, has done more than 20.000 km since last year.
Best regards,
Black Sterling

Re: 827 Coupe
Dear forum members,
I want to apologize for my absence (due to computer issues) and want to thank You all for Your efforts and most valuable help!
Additionally I want to report some news:
I have got another golden Coupe/827 (that makes two for now).
The grey 825SD is still standing (and got another 825SD in BRG for spare parts).
The 827 SLi in BRG did serve well during the last five years. Went several times on vacation to the Alps, Italy and Croatia (there with a 22 feet sailboat in tow).
Only one time the inner tie rod broke, and left the car stranded without steering on the side of the road of a holiday island.
This month I tried to get a new MOT for the green 827 SLi, had to repair minor rust spots.
Then I booked the car to a local garage for replacement of the front disc brakes.
There the garage boy managed to miss the the brake pedal and floored it, hitting the wall full frontal and afterwards panicked and hit the wall behind him with the rear left corner of the car.
Luckily there were no injuries (i.e. to colleagues of him).
But there is major damage: Both bumpers, both headlights, the bonnet, and some panels around the cooling radiator. The front wings are ok.
I am somewhat surprised how fast these cars can get within a few meters in a small Garage.
So the spare 825SD in BRG comes handy for parts...
Unfortunately the bonnet of this car would not unlock, because of rust in the locks.
Fortunately in the end I managed to get access to the bonnet lock wires and could pull them very hard, so it opened at last.
Now will see, if the Garage will manage to repair the car with the spare parts I handed over to them.
Sorry for my lengthy rants.
Best regards,
Black Sterling

Re: 827 Coupe
I hope you can get it repaired, the 827 was used by the Police as a motorway car because it does accelerate so fast and is capable of high speed cruising easily.
I thought i was having problems with my MoT place, yours are 10 times worse! At least nobody has pranged mine - i hope!

You were not lucky but as you have the parts, they could repair your car. We cross our fingers

Dear forum members,
thank You very much for Your kind words and ongoing support,
I can say the car ist back on the road, with new mot (front brake discs and rear shocks are new).
Show room condition is out of reach, but I am very glad to keep such a nice car as daily driver!
Best regards,
Black Sterling

Re: 827 Coupe
Glad to hear you are reunited with your car! Finally got mine back as well but they've made a right pigs ear of welding it - so bad in fact that it's not passable as an MoT repair. Chasing my money via the card company now and will then have it welded properly elsewhere.black_sterling wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 2:13 pmDear forum members,

Re: 827 Coupe
Is that the same garage that actually did the MOT, Dave? That's not good at all if so. You could also consider reporting them to the DVSA if necessary

Re: 827 Coupe
It is Adrian - i don't want to threadjack so i'll only show 4 of the pics to give an idea :
The same person originally tested it, failed it, "repaired" it then passed it and then wouldn't let me collect for nearly 6 months and then charged me more than originally quoted!
That's the short version, it's a bit more in-depth but not happy at all about it!

I'll probably add something to my thread in the not too distant future.820Vitesse wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 8:59 amDave that mess is unbeleivable, keep us up to date in your thread, I hope you can get that mess removed and done properly
