It is and will probably find I didnt need to do it when it eventually goes back together.

I offered up the intermediate driveshaft, it will fit but like most things the unknown is how much work it will need. I cannot tell for sure but looks like either the block or intermediate shaft bearing housing will need machining to get a fixing plate in between.

Sounds good Jim - odd idea but instead of bolting the intermediate bearing up to the bracket, what about bolting it down to the bracket?

In other words, make the bracket so it comes below the bearing rather than above like a big "U" shape so the mounting face of the bearing block faces downwards.

Just an idea that might give you the clearance you need? :D

Dave

That is a very good idea, even L shaped if it can be made sturdy enough, or box section, good thinking.

Very silly question:
The Honda block is 3 pots long, and the Rover 4 pots. I am presuming that the NS edge of the gearbox is in the sme place, therefore the OS output will be the same on both vehicles.
It popped into my head yesterday as I was swapping cars around.

Drove my no wdaily 2.7 manual, 2.0 turbo, and dropped off Johns rebuilt Stirling back to him.

I see what you're getting at Phil but it doesn't work that way. The driveshafts on the 2.7 are 645mm long both sides, the N/S shaft on the 2.0 is 580mm and the O/S shaft is (i think) 980mm.

What Jim is trying to do is fit the intermediate shaft from a 2.7 into/onto his 2.0 to minimise torque-steer.

Going back to your original point about the difference in length of the blocks, the centre of gravity is going to be in different places so it's reasonable to assume they will mount in slightly different places which would probably explain why the N/S shaft on the 2.0 is longer than on the 2.7 - also the 2.0 block is cast iron and when either block is coupled to the gearbox, the centre of gravity of the assembly is going to shift as well.
Cheers,
Dave

Thank you Mark, I desperately want to get back for some more but as usual the car is in bits.
My downpipe arrived after 2 months instead of 3 weeks, lovely item but it has to go back to be altered.

Yes photos and template supplied for the plan so there was no excuse. It is back with them now with another template and more pictures so hope they can get it right this time, frustrating and taking to long.
I was able to check the downpipe fit in the car with turbo fitted and I need to modify the front crossmember so that will keep me occupied for a while, the marked area will be removed.

I'd wait to sort the cross member until you get the rejigged front pipe back Jim. You may well find that it takes a slightly different route and the modification needs to be in a different place or maybe not at all.

That said if they can't get the flange shape right you might end up with anything!

Would give "tuning" possibilities i suppose!  :D

Haha your right but plan is to make the space big enough to allow for some tolerance and rounded rather than square as marked.

I thought it would be Jim, i'd just be reluctant to mutilate the cross member until i'm sure it's necessary. :D
