I intend to try and make it, but might be with another group. I'd be more than happy to join up with you guys for a 30 800 photo opportunity.

The idea from you guys of having 30 800 sounds like a good one! The most 800's at one event in The Netherlands was 4. 3x MK2 and 1x MK1.

Even 10 would be amazing for me. 8) And nice to get advice and information from 800 owners. As said before, looking forward to it!!

After the advice and inspiration from Ryan and mr Alex i painted the A-pillars and C-pillars today. :) Thanks again guys! How is it possible by the way that the B-posts always look good? Are they plastic covers?

The A-pillars look great but C-pillars have a few drips. But hey, not bad for an amateur. ;)
(update: the c pillars drips were sanded out and after a that little area was resprayed, they look great) :D

On the road again! :D After 4,5 month's of hibernation the 2.7 litre V6 started up as if he ran yesterday. 8) Right after the startup i went to the MOT garage (30 minutes drive) were the Vitesse passed the MOT with flying colours! :D 8) The garage's owner said ''well i am checking your Rover as i am obligated to but it is a brand-new car''. Nice to hear from someone with 50 years of experience! :D

The painted pillars look great.

Always a strange moment when someone else steps in your pride and joy. But the garage owner (who is at the wheel) is a good friend.

The protection wax that i sprayed on last year looks like new.

Ready for another year of certified motoring. :D

Service time today. Oil change and filter. And the thermostat was replaced because i noticed that before the Vitesse went in hibernation it took a long time to get to temperature and stayed very low when on the move. Now all is good. And the bonnet badge is replaced! Thanks Ryan for helping with the purchase of the badge.

That bonnet badge looks good and the 'stat will help the economy as well as the warm up! You might even find the torque converter lock up works again on the auto box, a bit like having an extra gear!

Dave

Thanks again. I think the temperature was sufficient before because the fuel consumption was very good already (8.2 liter per 100 km). But i just want everything as good as possible. :D Now when he is running at a better temperature i think it will improve indeed. :D Also the warm up is much better. Very happy!

Ah i never heard of that the torque converter lockup was linked with the engine temperature. Transmission works fine. :D

I found out the hard way - the engine and auto box ECUs are linked and the auto box ECU reads the engine temperature. If it's not up to temperature, it won't engage the lock-up on the torque converter so at 62mph/100kmh you'll have3000-3200rpm showing on the rev counter instead of about 2600-2700rpm and you'll still have the "fluid flywheel" effect.

I traded my first (mk1) 827 Sterling in because i thought the box had developed a fault when all it needed was a new thermostat! If i'd known then what i found out a few years later i would have kept it and changed the 'stat!
Cheers,
Dave

Hmm you made me worried (was just so happy that it is 100% now). My 827 i believe runs with 3000 RPM at 100 kph exactly sins i got it. My father's mk2, the ones that my friends own, auto tests, the ones that i saw on the internet in clips do the same. All the gears work fine and smooth. Also the transmission specialist said it is in goed condition.

I hope you are wrong with the values. :(

Perhaps they had different final drives for the European market? If memory serves correctly it is 22.9mph/1000rpm in top gear which gives about 2700rpm at 60mph - certainly about what mine shows anyway. Even if it was 21.9mph/1000rpm it would still only be about 2750rpm.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi i checked it out in the magazines.

The quote is this:
AUTOCAR: Honda four-speed dual mode automatic transmission is geared deliberately, with top gear offering just 21.3 mph//1000 rpm----actually lower than top in the automatic two liter version.

1000/21.3= 46.9483 miles an hour.

3000/46.9483= 63.9 miles.

I don't know if i am correct with the calculation. Don't take my reaction as negative.

That prompted me to check in the Rover WSM (WorkShop Manual) and indeed you are right - it is 21.3mph/1000rpm for the 4-speed auto in the 2.7 powered cars. I realised where i got the figure of 22.9mph/1000rpm from - that is the speed per 1000rpm of engine speed on the 5-speed manual 827!

Your maths is a little out though. :D For every 1000rpm of engine speed, 21.3mph of road speed will be achieved. In other words, at 1000rpm you will be doing 21.3mph, at 2000rpm - 42.6mph, at 3000rpm - 63.9mph so at 100kmh (on your speedo as i expect it's in kmh?) your rev counter should be showing a little under 3000rpm.
That's pretty much what my coupé shows, however my Sterling shows the figures i quoted earlier. I've checked the speedo against two separate sat navs (one dedicated satnav, the other a speed app on my phone using GPS) and it appears accurate. That leads me to wonder if perhaps there was an unlisted option of a slightly higher ratio final drive or maybe a manual spec differential was fitted by mistake at some point. Not sure if they're interchangeable or what or maybe the Honda Legend had a higher final drive and someone fitted a Legend box at some point - i'll have to do some digging!
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave,

I am so happy that there is nothing wrong with my car! So i was right then. At 100 kilometers an hour on the tomtom navigation my rev counter (crude mk1a instrument) is pointing out 3000 rpm (maybe just a hair under but hard to see). And yes my speedo is in kph.

Do you meen that your old Sterling had a Honda gearbox?
