It's giving me the push i need to do a few similar jobs on mine although at the moment i'm working on something to renew the bushes/bearings in the front upper wishbones.

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Even though the profile of my old tyres was oke, they were getting old. This was a good excuse to tackle a job that i wanted to do for a long time. Restore the rims!! Jacked up the car and put it on stands so the work could begin.
To make sure the rims are not bend or anything like that i brought them to a company that can align them if needed. My rims were good but he did see minor faults on two rims.
He told me that it was not really needed but that he could align them if i wanted it. I said he could do the both because i want all the rims to be perfect.
Then, the restoration could begin! I brought them to work. This is how they were. This was the worst to be honest.
Sanding:
All prepared for primer:
First the inside. Degrease everything properly:
Primer:
My colleagues painted them silver to be followed by the clear coat.
Clear coat:
Ofcourse the centre caps had to be done as well:
Preparation:
Mask of the inside so i could start on the front of the rims:
Primer:
Wheel spray silver matched the original colour almost exactly so that is my choice to use.
First the centre caps:
Then, a colleague clear coated everything:
No we did not forgot one centre cap but my manager wanted to experiment on the first one to get the best way to paint the emblem. It ended up with him doing all the centre caps by hand. Very kind!
Everything done and drying properly before the tyres are installed:
During this i was also busy in the garage at home. Now i could inspect the wheel wells. On the fuel filler neck there was a small rust area.
Sanded:
Zinc spray:
Primer:
Black:
Clear coat:
Good for another 100 years!:
Nice new looking aloys are great but tired looking brake callipers behind them do let the side down. So, cleaned all four callipers and painted them with heat resistant silver:
And now i could give way to a fetish in regards to detailing wheel wells haha. All the four wheel wells are sprayed in with a cleaner spray and then used a brush and car shampoo to clean them out. After this, gave the black parts a coat of preservant.
Find the differences :
Front right:
Aft right:
Front left:
Aft left:
I did not find rust anywhere luckely! After all this i used clear tectyl (rust preventive wax) in the seems:
Last wednesday i installed the tyres on my work:
After this i had them balanced by a neighbouring company. Clearly asked them to put the wheel weights on the inside of the rims but not in the way of the front brake callipers. They did great!
Very nice to have another big Rover to serve as a load carier.
Ready to be installed on the car:
Job done:
Thanks to the advise and help of my colleagues i can say; job well done!

Excellent work on those wheels and everything else Marc - definitly impressed with the wheels though! They were in good condition to start with so wasn't expecting such a dramatic improvement but it's there!

@ Dave: Thanks. Yes i know what you mean! The wheels were not to bad but when on closer inspection they were. And now with fresh paint it is more obvious.
@ 820Vitesse: Thank you! Yes that was a moment that i wanted to capture. Good description indeed!

Compared to the wheels i refurbed for my Coupe Marc, those were pristine before you started! Can't post a photo at the moment, postimages is under server maintenance for a day so can't access the links there.Marc-827-Vitesse wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 1:14 pm@ Dave: Thanks. Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
I was asked by a magazine to write a few words about my Rover cars. They uploaded it on the digital page:
(you can use Google Translate if you want to read it!)
Because i wanted to take some pictures i fired up my 827 Vitesse and drove it around the garage. Nice to see all the work outside the storage box!

Excellent Marc! I don't pretend i understand Dutch but recognise enough German words (or similar words to German) that i could skim-read it and get the general idea.
Some great photos there as well!
