Thanks for the comments guys, they are much appreciated - I am not sure there was sound deadeding material on the bulkhead previously under my ownership, it is an interesting point I will be looking into...
As an aside, it seems the windscreen washer jets are rather blocked, tried my best to fettle at them with a needle but not much improvement - anyone got any new ones squirrelled away?
Still building up to work write up...

Happy Birthday Mark's 820 then. Very nice car mate. Love the late mk1 fastbacks with the little lip spoiler. Those wheels really suit, and the colour looks lovely. Hope you're enjoying the car
All the best

LOL! Seriously, it depends where I am and what my hair feels like doing - some days I get ID'ed when buying Tim Taylor's Landlord from the local supermarket, some days people probably wouldn't query if I said I was 3 or 4 years older.mjc9967 wrote:Really - you look older in your picture!

Just a thought for Captain Slow, sorry to barge in on the thread a little. But I recall you saying insurance was a struggle on a 420 at one stage, but I am the same age as you and found the the 420 was cheaper to insure for me at 18 when I got it than even a 1.1 saxo. Madness I know but an 820 would probably be cheaper to insure than the 306 in your tag. Just thought it might be worth a look. ER17 suits you, so a nice 820 Sterling would be perfect I should imagine

It's a thought, Rob - but the Pug's not my car, it's a shared family runaround. As I'm not the main driver it isn't in my name - so a like-for-like comparison can't be done!
My problems are space and money - when they're sorted 820 Sterlings (Coupes in particular) will certainly be on the 'to look at' list! Hopefully living in a part of Sheffield that's usually on fire won't affect me TOO MUCH (Yeah, in my dreams )!
Alex, I bet you've no idea who is reflected in the rear door either!

Ah I see, fair enough. Yeah I agree a nice coupe with an auto box would suit me nicely too I think. Insurance is legalised theft anyway, but I can see where you're coming from. I insure my cars in my name fully comp but with my Dad and brother as named drivers. Big bro is 32 and has 5 yrs ncb, and Dad has been driving since 1971 and has never had a claim. My fastback costs me £89 a month to insure that way, which is reasonable at our age. The 420 cost about £100 a month until I sold it to dad and let him take me off the insirance. £9 a month for him lol.......

Hello all,
That time of year again, MoT passed with no issues. Car has just over 67k miles on it now.
Gave it a low mileage service (only 2k done since last year), full crevice/underside clean and waxoyl (a standard annual thing for me for the last few years, going into winter), and dismantle and clean up of all brakes (another personal standard annual thing, guarding against the need to get things like sliders with are unobtainable).
Also, the only thing left outstanding from last years refurb, front shocks and springs. You may recall me bleating on about trying to find the parts before. For info, 92-96 820 springs, and generic Mk1 shocks made by KYB used. I can report that its not worth getting excited over the minute different specs issued by Rover back in the day, as long as its application is in the ballpark. Hope its not just me, but I feel that the height of the front looks a lot better, I feel it was a tad high in the past. Lumps and bumps in the road are a good bit duller, cornering is stiffer, and steering feels a little more responsive. So, job's a good-un from where I'm sitting!
Now for the porn:
Managed to get a few in the sun at the end!
