Thanks Rich - the clay bar takes a lot of effort does it? Do you think one bar would be enough for a car that has not been clayed for many years (possibly not ever), or should I think in terms of two, or three?
Brad, thanks for the tip I'll see if John pops up here if not I'll pm him in a few days.
I'd be well made up if you found the new scripts - I see plenty on eBay looking like the right font but seem to be a later more shiny finish. These cars need the more satin aluminium colour dont they? Metal coloured rather than shiny metal finish? Very kind of you to look for me - thanks!

Hello again
I have found the original badges which were on my 1990 820i which had to be scrapped 3 years ago with just 90 odd miles on the clock. It's a sad and long story...
Anyway, not brand new but completely unmarked and, as you wanted, in the nice dullish finish. Just need gluing/bonding/sticking.
Any good?
Brad

You will only need one the meguiars kit comes with two, and yes lots of elbow grease. You will be able to feel the difference when you run your fingers over a done part and one tht hasn't been done, it will feel very smooth make sure you polish and wax afterwards.mjc9967 wrote:Thanks Rich - the clay bar takes a lot of effort does it? Yes. The complete interior, headlining, a wing a pair of doors, all door cards, carpet, rear bumper, alloys... I basically chucked the shell, two doors bootlid and...the engine! I wished I had removed it but was so fed up I didn't bother. If you need a late mark 1 820 engine, though, I still have a new one in the box stored safely which I swapped for a car a while backmjc9967 wrote:Sure Brad thanks reckon I'd go for them cheers.
I remember the sad story from before - what a shame! Out of interest did you keep lots of other things off that car?
Send me your address and I'll post the badges to you tomorrow first class.

Thanks for the info Richard - I suppose the detailing spray (thats what the lubricant is isnt it?) with the kit is enough for the job? I may be overzealous with it....
Brad - thanks awfully for that, sent u a pm

Absolutely, Chris. It is a patch about half way along the drivers door. Probably have to get a temporary repair to start with so that a proper paint job can get done with the main bodywork bits later...
It's all about juggling priorities now with three cars!
(PS the silver Mk1 passed MoT a couple of weeks ago after only a front exhaust pipe replacement and cleanup of the rear number plate lamp lenses. I had the sump refurbed (it was going porous) at the same time as the front pipe was coming off to save duplicating the work. More on that one when the to do list is attacked properly, just attended to MoT items so far...)

And ask Neo, too. He spends so much time polishing his Coupe (he's frightened to use it in case it boils over) it's a wonder there's anything left of the paint on that bodywork.
as it happens i dont spend a lot of time polishing as the stuff i use keeps it looking good as for not using it well it is used as a daily driver
300 miles a week touch
anyway back to the mark 1 very nice indeed strange the paint code on yours is the same as mine coq
have to meet up and compare coulors as you live fairly local to me

Yes that would be nice Neo.
I wouldnt expect your super polished verion of the colour to look too well matched to my never been polished, still waiting for some work paintwork though!!! At least not yet....
