Alternatively wrap a bit of string round the pipe then measure where it meets itself, divide by 3.1416 and that will be close enough to the diameter. :D
Dave, I'm just gonna leave the exhaust as it is. I'm amazed at how much quieter it is now after a few weeks driving; honestly it is that silent now :o :) Though I'm still going to have to sort out this silly mish mash of wiring that runs directly under the oil sump to the lambda sensors :? This is not good in the long run.

By the way Dave, I have got hold of the rear hub (very cheap) and fitted this today. Sorry its not that I meant to snub your offer, but the breaker I bought this from owed me a good deal on something for being a return customer.

The hub fitted fine and I heavily de rusted and painted all the exterior with 3 coats of hammarite. The good news is NO MORE ABS LIGHT! :D :D :D :D

No worries Charles - i hope the exhaust doesn't prove thirsty if the bore is too big like it did with mine!

As for the hub, i'm glad you've sorted it and also glad i don't have to continue trying to shift the various bits on the one i have! :P

At least your ABS now works as it should!

Just a suggestion on the Lambda wiring, the rear one you should be able to pick up the wire on the right hand side of the rear bank cylinder head, literally just drop an extension wire down. Front one similar but take it back across the timing belt end of the engine so it's next to the rear connector on the rear head and drop it down from there and go forward onto the sensor from there. Sounds like matey has literally just dropped longer wires in and followed the route of the exhaust!

At least if you neaten it up you minimise any risk! ;) :D
Cheers,
Dave

With regards to fuel consumption these last couple of weeks I've yet to notice any difference over the old setup.

And with the lambda that's sound reasoning. Unfortunately whoever wired it has cabled tied one wire that comes down the front manifold actually onto the sway antiroll bar and then inconveniently the wire passes right under the oil sump bung :( .
Now I could have taken it back to sort out, but this should have been done right in the first place if the person knew what to do.. which leads me to think that they don't do this often. So it's just extra work for me to sort out but with reassurance its all wired neatly and sensibly.

Maybe it's the "new" of the silencers that had to settle, time will tell.

I forgot to mention, when you extend the wiring, use something like silicone insulted wire and then a protective sleeve over it, something capable of withstanding high temperatures like this for example :

https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/cable-sleeves/1874616/

That's not necessarily the best product or the one i would recommend but it's that kind of thing. It will do the job quite happily though.

The one big problem with taking it back is that if they've done it so wrong in the first place, they're unlikely to achieve a better result second time round.
You know the old saying - if you want it done right, do it yourself? Classic example! :D

Now there's been time for a layer of soot to form that helps too.

No heatshrinking required Charles! It's expandable sleeving (but only slightly) and just needs sliding over the wire/cable you want to protect. I've guessed at 4mm internal diameter, you'll need to check that fits over the wire you're using. :D
Cheers,
Dave

I hadn't realized until tonight just how dangerously low 3 of my tyres had been on the coupe. By looking at the wheels and tyres, its difficult to say because these tyres are the wrong profile for the 17inch wheels. I tested the rear tyre. This was 43psi.
The other 3 tyres were virtually 0psi..very odd. Anyway they are all at the correct PSI, including the spare which I had to exchange for one of the wheel set that is now fitted to the MK1 827sli.
Maybe the weather playing the readings up..I'm not sure.

Other news on this car in the past week, the air filters been replaced having done roughly the miles in the service guide. Still need to get around to replacing the spark plugs this year and the brake fluid.

This weather is playing havoc with tyre pressures Charles. Not much you can do except keep an eye on them. :D

It must be the weather and not the Michelin motorised pump. :)

 This is actually my third motorised pump in 4 years. The first two were a good make, but I made the mistake of keeping them in the boot of the coupe. So when there was rain, (and rain leaking into the boot) the pumps got water damaged and never quite worked the same again. So this pump is kept elsewhere.

I've not been active on here for a short while. But the coupe has had some active service by taking me on a trouble free trip to Birmingham for a work related meeting and a visit to the National Motor Cycle Museum; - the biggest collection of British motorcycles in Europe and probably the world over.
Was a good trip with better than expected fuel economy. 301 miles there and back on one tank of fuel with a range of 30 miles still left over in the tank! Pleasant surprise, so I think my new stainless exhaust has had no effect on overall fuel consumption which is a positive thing. :D

After another trip to near Hull about 12 days ago, I replaced the oil and filter 2 days later; decided to try Shell 10W 40 over the Mobil 1 which I have to add I have been using for some time and has been very good oil itself and reasonably priced as long as you know where to find it reasonably priced. It will be interesting to see how the Shell stuff compares.

Today I have replaced the standard NGK spark plugs with the NGK Iradium tips. (auto spell not working) Its been nearly two years since last replaced but the old plugs are still in excellent condition so I'm keeping these as spares (just in case)
The main advantage of the new type plugs is there are made to last twice as long as any regular type. I hope to see some slight improvements. From the first run the car performed very well so its been a great start! :D

Glad your Coupé is performing well Charles - bit concerned about the economy though!

It's a 15 gallon tank so unless i've misunderstood, the round trip was 301 miles to the museum and you had 30 ish miles left? In other words a total of 330 miles ish? That works out to 22mpg.

Of course if i've misunderstood and it was 301 miles each way, that would be 630 ish which would be 41 mpg ish - pretty good! :D

Dave
