Interesting what you say about the exhaust Dave. Will check the bore etc of my stainless.

I could try swapping the stainless with a standard and seeing hte difference. i alos have a set of brand new standard downpipes, although do rather like the look of Richards Stainless ones :)

Did you ever see my 4-tailpipe system when it was on my Sterling Phil? I had to fit restrictors with a 35mm (or was it 38mm, i'll have to measure them) hole in the inlet of each back box to restore back pressure, torque, economy, performance etc.

The key to all this is the 827 is a complete tuned system from the resonator under the left front wing through the variable length inlet manifolds, engine and exhaust system. The resonator gets switched out by vacuum when the butterflies in the inlet manifold operate to further shorten the inlet at higher revs so you can see a lot of thought went into how it all works together.

This gives the best lengths of tuned pipes from start to finish through various rev ranges and altering anything upsets this delicate balance. That's why fitting larger diameter exhausts has a negative effect as it "lengthens" part of the whole system. While the physical length doesn't increase, because of the larger bore it makes the volume for a given length larger. Because the system is tuned for a certain bore pipe, it then has the effect of a longer section of pipe because it's a larger diameter.

I've been drooling over those OBX headers/downpipes for several years now, probably about 8 years i think. Maybe i'll manage to get a set one day...........
Cheers,
Dave

That's a nuisance Charles! At least they were on special offer when you bought them so you saved there but what you gained on the roundabouts you've lost on the swings. As long as you're happy with them once fitted it should be all good! :D

The drivers side sill was fitted a couple of years back and there is a spare sill in the airing cupboard for the passenger side which was originally repaired before i bought the car.

Anyway, the MoT man, he say "Yes" today so it now has a years MoT on it again. :D

So..the day has come when my headers have arrived! At last! Seemed a long time waiting but it's been worth that.
Initial impressions are that these manifolds are high end and made with tender care. Even comes with an OBX Racing rear bumper sticker should I wish to fit that. (maybe not)

ImageI also like the makers plaque too! :D 8)

You've been Photobucketed Charles! Can't see the pretty pictures!

Try postimages.org instead or use the upload button when you post.

Like you, i wouldn't use the bumper sticker either, prefer to leave people guessing!   :D
