A late follow up to this ongoing saga that's nearly been as epic as Star Wars!
Put simply, I got one sensor out with great difficulty, it took nearly two days to get the rear bank lambda sensor to free off, with great sweat and choice words!
Alot of heating and very careful twist turning was required which worked, as the threads were still there afterward!!
The other sensor was very hard to get to, and I could barely get in to turn a 1/4 turn, so the car had to go to the mechanic, who struggled just as much as I had with the first one.
But some time later it's all done, two new sensors, soldered/heatshrink.

New battery required also, as the 6month old battery gave up the ghost over winter. (faulty but thankfully under warranty)
So that should have reset the ecu also, but I need to double check the ecu for flash codes.

I'm hoping now, my fuel consumption and emissions will be improved. (though the later already very good at MOT)
I can say I've done abit for the environment and hopefully added value to the car, since good fuel mileage cars tend to be worth more than gas guzzlers at second hand value.
All's well. Next job is a big service, oil/filter, air filter, fuel filter, sparkplugs and coolant.
Hopefully if I can save, I'll get new shocks/springs this year too.

All good news Charles! Do you find it's a bit livelier/more responsive with the new Lambdas?
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave. So far I've only driven the car back home, 5 miles from the garage. But I was going up hill and it sounded different, but that could just be my imagination. :D I'm gonna get out in it this week, and fill her up and record mpg.

I finally took the plunge and bought the OBX Legend exhaust headers from the US California, after seeing 30% off on EBay. Looking forward to getting a hold of these soon!

Nice one Charles! Looking forward to the installation and test drive reports now!

From what i can make out it's sent by USPS in the USA which then gets changed to FedEx in this country (or at least that's been my experience with things i've bought from the USA) so hopefully you shouldn't have any Post Office surcharges.

Not sure about Customs though, i know some other sellers of the same things include customs charges in their price - fingers crossed you'll be ok! :D
Cheers,
Dave

Yeah ur correct Dave it's sent by USPS, and there has been something added to the price like £6.00 but I've no idea what, because this isn't displayed on the EBay invoice. At least there was 30% off and probably been a fair bit cheaper compared to having custom build ones.
I'll keep y'all posted.. :D

The £6 might be the shipping in this country Charles. Don't forget you'll need to extend the cable for at least one of your Lambda sensors (front one) and i know it's a horrible thought, covering up all that lovely stainless steel, but some exhaust heat-wrap, especially on the front half, will keep the heat away from the engine and in the case of the front one, from under the sump.

A couple of months back fitted a new front pipe on my Sterling and wrapped that with heat-wrap first before fitting. Too soon to see if it's improved the oil but fairly sure it will. :D
Cheers,
Dave

At least the lambda sensors can come out much easier now since they have been replaced quite recently, so that's not too bad extending the cable(s). Exhaust wrap; - good thought! I must remember before fitting! 8)

Definitely easier to do the exhaust wrap before fitting!

Image

I've just had a thought - are you fitting a decat pipe as well?

Dave

Thanks Charles - had a feeling you had a decat pipe but wasn't sure. For some reason the heat-wrap has made the exhaust deeper sounding, perhaps taken the "tinny resonance" out of the front pipes :

That's with a cat on it as well! :( Got the MoT soon so once it has another year on it i'll decat it and see how it sounds then!  :D
