This is the 2nd W plater I've seen for sale in the last 12 months, its not the youngest registered one though as I'm sure Craig Cheetham spotted a Y reg previously.

Just as a bit of trivia, which may be of interest to some as this thread has thrown up late registered cars.
Firstly 800 production ceased on the 17th September 1998, no 800 was built after this date as the 75 took over the production lines.
Benny's excellent new Vitesse is registered on a W plate, which is a 2000 year registration letter, but when was it actually built?
The other W reg that I am aware of is also a Vitesse and is possibly the one Mark saw after picking up is V plate Sterling way back in 2003, but when was Mark's car built?
I once owned the Y reg 800, Y336HPG, an 820si which was rescued by MG Mal, sold to me and then I sold it on to a close friend. Unfortunately the car was hit by an uninsured driver and written off, but when was that built?
Seemingly the oldest car here would be Mark's Sterling sold on the 8th September 1999 but built in late July 1998 with a chassis number of 259485.(the very last chassis number was 260898,KV6 Sterling donated to Gaydon museum and later auctioned off by them)
Benny's Vitesse W493KAW was sold on the 28th April 2000 but built in early February 1998 and carries the chassis number 255476.
The other W reg, W718MBJ, also a Vitesse was registered on the 1st April 2000 but built in early January 1998 with a chassis number of 254618
Y336HPG, 820si was registered on the 23 April 2001 in England after spending 3 years sat in a dealership in Barbados unsold and re-imported here. It was built in early February 1998 with a chassis number of 255275
So on paper the oldest is in fact the youngest.
Clearly all these cars sold late as people waited to see what the new 75 was like, everybody knew its launch was imminent, but I think the other thing going on here is the cars built early in 1998 got parked at the back of the lot and then slowly buried by newer cars coming of the line.

I think you're right, cars were built and stockpiled on the lot. Obviously I would have loved to own the very last one but hey any Vitesse is a good car

MBJ is indeed a silver fastback and currently taxed and tested til mid 2017. It used to pop up in pictures quite often a few years back. not sure who owns it now.BennyVitesse wrote:Thanks Dave for all this info!

The last Vitesse known to exist is chassis number 260881 reg S523DJO and is in white gold, rare colour for a Vitesse. It was built and sold within 4 weeks in september/october 1998 which kind of reinforces the view of last of the line first in the queue to be dispatched to dealers.
In the end all these cars were built in the last year, so all late cars in reality. Look forward to you bringing her back to her former glory.

No it was the early nineties when Rover were making so many cars without sales to make production figure look good and the start of the employee scheme where people off the line bought them for a short time then sold them on again making trade figure look good.traineefarmer wrote:Is that from the right era?
