Manalishis red Vitesse Sport

Post by Manalishi » Sat Nov 18, 2017 10:01 am

Yes, it’s true. Yesterday my friend Gunnar and I went for a roadtrip to leave his very nice 827 coupe to get the autobox sorted. To be able to get back home we bought a car, a red 1994 Vitesse Sport, sold new in Sweden. These cars were badged 820ti when sold in Sweden.

After some considering Gunnar and I split the costs and the parts (Gunnar gets a set of nice wheels and some other stuff) and I get the car. The main reason is to have a good engine and gearbox for my Vitesse coupe, but maybe I Will drive this for the following season.

Regular Vitesse Sport with recaros etc and 200bhp engine.

More info Will follow and only two pics now, filling up petrol and Gunnar behind the wheel.

Very nice Henrik! Those wheels really suit it, especially in that colour. :D

Dave, those wheels are terrible. :) But they are studded winter tyres so Will be there until april.

The plan is to get it back home, give it a good wash, especially on the inside, and to glue the dash lift. Then it will be a regular driver for a few months.

Hoppfully some additional pics tomorrow.

Perhaps the camera angle is flattering to the wheels Henrik! In which case, winter tyres on them is probably the best thing!

Looking forward to more pics when you get them! :D

I had a go with some detergent today and the car is transformed. Really gritty inside, but nothing my special cleaner cant handle. Next step is to polish the exterior with my double headed polisher, but that must probably wait until spring time. What can and will be done is the dash lift.

Some before and after.

Yes Dave, the flame red is really nice when clean. Front wings and a door or two needs a good rub down, but generally very nice lacquer.

Where do you all get your paint from? Are the cans from Rimmer good?

I think it Will be ace with the 17s on!

I've not had to use any paint as yet Henrik so can't help on that one. Not much help to you but i know a lot of people have given good reports about Halfords (a car spares/accessories chain of shops here) paint.

The big problem is sending aerosols overseas by post, or any other method come to that. Because they can explode at altitude i don't think they're allowed on aircraft, not sure about sea freight but also because of the worldwide terrorist threat, i don't know if it's possible to send aerosols abroad at all.

You may be better off finding a local agent that can make paint to the colour code, especially as being local they may add a different amount of hardener to the mix or something to cope with the colder climate. :D
Cheers,
Dave

As Dave says, I would get it made locally. They can match it and include the fading that occurs with age, especially on a red car like this.

Yes you’re probably right regarding the paint. Firstly though, a good rub to shift the oxide and then some spots that need attention.

Driving the car just makes me smile. Just at good on the road as my coupe but feels more nippy and Quick around the bends. It is really sad that winter is coming, meaning 4-5months of snow, ice and terrible roads.

The Coupes are deceptive Henrik, mine has always felt more "planted" on the road than my saloon leading me to feel it was less nippy (and to a point it is or at least was for several reasons) and didn't handle as well.
However experience has taught me it's every bit as quick as my saloon through the twisty stuff, especially after uprating the anti roll bars.

At least in Sweden you know what to do in snow and ice, the majority of people in this country see a snowflake and crawl round at a snails pace! I'm not saying they should still drive at the same speed as a dry summer road but they cause more problems by being over-cautious.
Cheers,
Dave

Dave,
I think the small and light winter tyres help the "nippyness". The coupe is actually faster in a straight line but that comes down to the fact that I've fiddled with it. :) Also I have the beefier ARBs, the best upgrade ever on the coupe. The difference now is the lower suspension on the saloon. The coupe is a regular Vitesse, so it sits an inch taller or so. I'm really looking forward to spring time to give this new one a go with the 17inch 215/45/17s on.

Swedes should be more used to the winter, but heck if they are? Each year the same: total chaos the first 2 weeks. Then it's like people start remebering: "Hey, I know this stuff. It's something that happened last year. IIRC it's called snow?" :D

Rain today. 7deg C outside and no snow. It all disappeared during the night.

I suspect you're being modest about the snow Henrik, we usually get a few days at a time of snow and ice and it really is total chaos. When we have it for a prolonged period like 5 years back, people do seem to eventually adapt but there are still the idiots that are driving way too fast wondering why they've ended up head first in a dyke and the other idiots who drive way too slow wondering why the whole world wants to overtake them on a dry road!

If the diameter of the snow tyres is smaller than the diameter of the 215/45/17s then it will feel nippier. When i renewed the tyres on my Volvo, the originals were 195/60/15 and i went to 195/65/15 to correct the speedo error and also improve the ride quality. It felt a little less nippy after but i've since made it just as (if not more) nippy by finding and correcting a tuning problem. :D
Cheers,
Dave

This arrived today. Silly cheap, I picked up the item from a thread here and they are perfect for my car! From Rimmer, LHD. Not as thick as the originals in my coupe but a zillion time better than the ”one size fits no one”-stuff you pick up at the dealers here.
